Friendly site or not?

I think part of it is some people have the need to bash others to feel good. Over all though it's a great site.

Remember grade school when you'd get all lined up ready to present a song or skit for the parents, and then that one kid would shout "Poo-poo!"
Well, he grew up to be a drive-by one poster.

The net is filled with dysfunctional people. There are flame wars here just like any other place.

Ignore it. It won't go away. But, whatever. It won't be fixed.

Any site where one can rate has a few who rate low or leave cranky remarks. I think it's human nature. Perhaps it helps puff themselves up to tear others down.

Because some people are just jerks.

You have to admit, it isn't nearly as bad over here like it is over at mylot. There always has to be someone who has a problem with something, maybe they are jealous of other peoples work.

THEY HAVE NO , NO RESPECT, NO LOVE , NO CARE.

I want constructive critique. What I don't like are the driveby voters who rate articles low and don't have the courage to say why.

Seriously, there are people who are here to express themselves, and there is no right or wrong in how they do it. Little ladies, eighty years old, for example, have stories to tell and lessons to teach, and in some of their cases, technique is unimportant.

There are lonely people reaching out, and the last thing they need is a hurtful remark.

However, if someone takes the time to "intelligently" give me advice, I appreciate it, even take it as a compliment, because I believe, then, that they take me seriously.

Taste and style are an altogether different matter. If someone does not care for the romance genre or rhyming poetry, then they have no right to slice, dice, and mutilate, especially when their critique is univited.

Overall, I find the folks on Gather very supportive.

I agree with Jennifer F - Some people are just jerks. and as Marilyn sais "Perhaps it helps puff themselves up to tear others down." I agree 100% it's sad - but it is what it is. It's their issue to deal with so don't let it get you down. (Hugs)

jealousy, anger, fear, resentments. Hard to say for sure...

I call them sourpusses. I think in every barrel there is always one bad apple!

I agree with everything that was said above. There's not much I can add. If I like an article or image and got something out of it I usually give it a 10, otherwise I don't rate it.

Unfortunately you find them in real life, too. It's a bummer. I just try to ignore it and not let it ruin my time and fun on here.

I don't mind stimulating discussion or if someone disagrees with a point I made. I do mind when people get hateful and ugly. I had a recent article I posted where one fellow just wanted to antagonize me -- and everyone else who shared their opinion on that topic! No real interest in discussing, just bashing. Very sad. It is a shame some people find this mean childishness fulfilling.

Gather is definitely not a utopia--I've found a lot of kind people on here and I try to avoid those who are really negative or hateful. Who needs the drama?
