MaLissa C.(malissa2007)’s birthday, as the custom goes, Malissa has prepared a little celebration of her life for us to share on her birthday with her. Here is her story.
I am currently single and just had baby number 3 on August 7th, 2007. I have a 3-year old son named Christopher Michael, a 2-year old daughter named Trinity Faith Michelle, and a 3-week old baby girl whose name is April Destiny Renea. We live in my hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
I am a full time student at Bowling Green Technical College; I started in January of 2006 and was supposed to graduate this December. I had to drop my classes last semester because I was too sick to finish due to my pregnancy and those classes will not be offered again until January of 2009. So instead of graduating this December, I will leave school certified to work on anything automotive except for manual transmissions.
Not only do I attend BGTC, but I also work at the college library assisting students with setting up their email, navigating through our college websites and helping them find information needed for their research projects. Before I started school, I worked at McDonald’s, Burger King, Wal-mart super center, Minit Mart, and a local day care center.
I can’t remember an exact date but I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. My first memory of writing poetry would be my own version of roses are red in the 1st grade. Most of my poetry I’ve written was done so throughout my middle school-high school days. Luckily I was introduced to Gather by Apryl L., and have been able to start writing again, and actually get feedback on my poems. Thank you Apryl L.
What first inspired me to write was nature and family problems that couldn’t be discussed at that time. Writing was my way to release my feelings without hurting anyone, and my only way of letting go of the bad, and expressing my feelings without being embarrassed.
Hobbies:
I don’t have any time for hobbies. There are only two things I can think of that you could categorize as hobbies I guess. One would be listening to music; the only time I have for that is on the drive to and from school. Also, writing when I can: I like writing song lyrics more than anything because I love to sing.
Some things I like: a nice quiet dinner and a movie, doesn’t matter if it’s at home or out; sitting in the car listening/singing to the radio; spending time with the one I love and waking up next to one another each morning which I can’t do now; lying or sitting on top of a car in an open field and watching the sun go down and rise again the next morning; riding shotgun just to see all the scenery of the back roads across the country when time doesn’t matter; and last but not least, taking my kids to the park to feed the ducks.
Pet peeves: I can not stand people who lie or cheat, and seeing/hearing people abuse others is something I can’t stand more than ANYTHING!
I have my opinions on abortion and other issues, but the one thing that’s closest to my heart now that I have children of my own is the leniency and mere short term sentences of sexual predators and criminals. I believe it would be a much better world if when these people were caught, that they be done away with. If they cut off parts of someone, those parts should be done the same as an “eye for an eye”, and then the death penalty so our hard earned tax dollars aren’t wasted harboring them.
Special events
I guess I must start at the beginning, which would be graduating from high school in December of 2002; falling for the love of my life, and giving birth to our 3 beautiful children.
One thing I would love to do that I haven’t done yet is to travel. I want to see the world and taste all of the lovely cuisine around the world.
I have two favorite birthday memories I’d like to share. The first, I was very young, 6 maybe, my whole family was there except my youngest cousin who wasn’t born until 2 days before my 9th birthday. I remember all sorts of balloons hanging everywhere in every color you could imagine and all of my family singing happy birthday together. I know, it sounds like an average birthday party and it was, but this was the last birthday party I had in which my parents were still together, and that’s what made it special.
My second favorite birthday memory was just last year, the BIG 2-1 :-) Anthony took me down to Jillian’s at Opry Mills in Tennessee. We had a couple of drinks and played I don’t know how many games of pool, just the two of us. Then we came back home and rented a hotel room for the night and drank more with my sister, her boyfriend and a few friends. Anthony got so drunk and had everyone laughing all night! It was really a great time.
One birthday wish
I shouldn’t say, but I don’t know that it will ever be able to happen anyway because of me. I wish I could be with this one person each day and both of us be happy, truly happy again. Why you ask; because I miss him. I miss just spending time together talking, shooting pool, cooking together, even just doing absolutely nothing but being around one another watching TV or lying in bed. I want our kids to have both parents to spend time with as a family each night after work and school even if only for a couple of hours! I want them to have what I didn’t.
The feature article I have chosen for people to have a look at is (This Man) http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976996727
My favorite song
There’s so many! If I had to pick just one, it would have to be Far Away by Nickelback.
Happy birthday Malissa from all your friends at gather, we hope we have made your day a memorial one.
Note to the birthday club members. If you have not yet submitted your birthday dates to me please to so. I need to prepare well enough in advance. Furthemore, when I send you the questions to do your celebration I need to have them back, at least one day prior to your birthday.

Your story here, your poem and this song have brought me to tears. Heck I'd even give you my birthday wish if it would just make yours come true for you. Isn't it amazing how ducks and children can sometimes hold things together when you just don't think anything can?
Best of luck!
and of course thank you Janelle for all of your help
and thank you Malissa, it was a pleasure to introduce you
Thank you Bundy, Tina, Adele, Patti, Kathryn, Kathleen and Saimy
