Most Americans know might know a little about Barbados, but that knowledge is usually limited to the beauty of the beaches. Some know that singing sensation, Rihanna, calls our shores home. Now we’ll soon have another claim to fame—Roberta Simpson. Roberta is a 71 year old mother of 5 grown children and Nana of 9 grandchildren. To have raised 5 children is quite an accomplishment but Roberta was never one to sit around even in well deserved retirement.
Roberta has always been a great storyteller. First her children and later her grandchildren preferred to hear Nana’s made up stories to the ones in books. So, she decided to write some of those stories down. She told well known Bible stories from the point of view of a child or animal who witnessed each event. When she had a few, she decided to see if anyone besides her children might be interested in reading them. After a few rejections, Integrity Publishers expressed an interest. And the rest, as they say, is history or soon will be.
Roberta’s first book, Nana’s Bible Stories, will be released in stores on September 8, 2007. She plans to start book two as soon as she gets back from a three week promotional tour in September. After that, who knows. She’s got so much spunk and so much vision; I can’t wait to see where her new writing career will take her.
