Freecycle, which is in nearly every town. Everything you give or take has to be done so FREELY, no exchange of money, although occasionally some people surprise each other with a plant or some little thing they have. But this is not expected.
Book trades or swaps. If I want to buy a book (and I get a lot free as a reviewer) I try to share the cost with a friend and then we pass them along.
Food - if you shop at the grocery store late at night, you can often get end of day bargains on meat that is NOT old but simply something the meat guy doesn't want to have to put away, the extra steaks or other cuts of meat. Try this, it works!
Teacher gifts- When you go to garage or estate sales, look for that ONE cup and saucer that is lovely. Few people want just one, unless they collect teacups. They want sets. But if you add a vintage and/or collectable teacup and saucer in a basket with some individual teabags and perhaps a nice paperback, you have a unique teacher gift, perfect for holiday relaxing. Just be sure to include both caffeinated and uncaffeinated varieties of tea.
I feel your pain, L Cee. My allowance just doesn't cover all the goodies I want!
Thanks, David.
