I was asked a question recently that really got me thinking.
To me luxury has mostly to do with freedom. The freedom to raise my own food, the freedom to live where I want in whatever way I want with my family.
Luxury is spending time in silence, by myself with a good book. Spending time together as a family working in the garden. Swimming in the sun on a hot summer day. Touching someone's heart, or changing their lives for the positive in some small way.
Luxury is soft, fresh, clean sheets, a soft bed, a fluffy towel, rich & creamy sauces, a foot rub, snuggles, and my favorite all natural (toxin free) shampoo.
Luxury is free time, having everything done and no worries about the future, for just one day.
To me, luxury has nothing to do with money, even if a well-prepared lobster is nice once a year.
But what is luxurious to you? what do you define as luxury? Is it a car, an experience, a food, maybe something completly different? I want to know what you think.

to me luxury is having someone wash my hair, it makes me feel sinfully decadant, and being able to reach for the craft item I need next and knowing it is there.
Luxury is to decide your own working time and spending quality time with people you love ...
to me luxury is havinng a good nights sleep ...I have hundred things in my head and haven't slept more than 3-4 hrs since last 4 days ..
Luxury is being free.
would be anything that
is not REQUIRED in life.
It's something you want but don't need.
Some people live the life of luxury literally. To me that may mean conspicious comsumption of goods.
Sometimes there are simple luxeries in life like a hot bath and a good book.
As Americans, I believe we take for granted many luxuries. Most household have change lying around somewhere, as well as money in purse, pocket, and bank. Nearly all Americans have a refrigerator and a freezer full of food. Most of us can turn on a spigot and have hot or cold running consumable water. We have houses much larger than our needs filled with more possessions than we will consume in a life time. Almost every household has more than one vehicle, and many have boats, ATVs, and
motorcycles or scooters. I think a lot of gatherers must have more than one bookcase full of books. I think as a nation we are avarice consumers of luxury, materially and abstractly.
So I ask myself how do I get this kind of freedom of self-expression?
And I answer myself that in order to have this sort of freedom, having the money to do so is "a" pre-condition.
Money is not to be one's purpose for living. Living freely and sharing the benefits of that kind of life...is the purpose for money.
Good to hear from you again, Kryistina. As always, a "no-fluff" article.
A 10+++

It makes me feel warm inside to know that there are others that think a luxury is anything that is not necessary for basic survival.
