Al Qaeda has an active plot to hit the West

Time is reporting the officials know the Al Queda has an active plot planned, but do not know the details yet.  It this enough to make the isolationists see terrorism is real or will they continue to bury their heads and pretend everything is George W. Bush's plan.

Oh, they'll bury their heads in the sand again - just like in August of 2001. I mean, Georgie would have to cut short his most recent vacation. And, they would have to admit that Al Queda is here again, and not in Iraq (their most recent justification for the war going on now.)

No one denies that the United States has enemies, and no informed person would deny that we have given many people reason to hate us.

What a large majority of Americans believe is that the reckless war of aggression in Iraq has not made us safer.

And the AWOL in Chief does bear much responsibility for the enormity of this failure.

Question for MDP: How does fighting and dying in Iraq prevent the Qaeda quest to kill Americans in our homeland?
What a surprise. Al Quaeda has plans for terrorist activity. Isn't that what they do? Let's just say that this news is considerably below my threshold of surprise and/or indignation.

Maybe our government should try to do something about it instead of going off on weird tangents.

Peter: I'm not sure there is that much time. This year, Ramadan is September 13, so likely not before mid-October this year. Need "action" before 2008 election time in order to permit emergency powers to take over government and scratch the election. And just what is the Muslim holy period all about? See:

Fear fuels the engine that powers the machines for making war - public opinion, political will, plenty of money, cooperating media (Fear headlines sell papers and grab audience shares), and military tools and war-making toys.

Fear encourages us to give up liberty for security, leaving us with little worth fighting for.

Well, I am sooooo glad we created a void in Iraq so that Al Queda could regroup and strengthen.

Hey, while I'm at it, I'm soo glad we've been exhausting resources and troops in Iraq so that we are left vulnerable here at home.

Hey Bill: Militarily, unless there is a secret U.S. Army stashed in a mountain, we pretty much have all our eggs in one basket (Middle East). Doesn't sound so smart to me. So, if they don't "leave us alone," then where are we?

Gosh, I am just weary of wondering what is right, who to fear, and what will become. Nonehteless, my weariness will change nothing. I feel powerless to act and no longer know what I thought I did. Confusing, huh? Well, that just sums my thoughts up on the matter.

C'mon Chicken little..the sky is not falling! Why go public with the story unless they really know the plot? Yes Modern, terrorism is real. We are even carrying out our own terror campaign on the Iraqis right now! In case you were not aware, they had zero to do with 9/11, and the only WMD's they ever had were given or sold to them by us!

Terrorism is real, but it is not a war that can be fought by conventional warfare. It requires good intelligence, and measures designed to protect likely targets and points of entry, like our ports.

I too would like to know how they know there is a active plot if they don't have any details. Perhaps they consider assessing feasibility or refining the details of a paper plot as active.

I would question the need for this story. Don't terrorists actively plot to destroy on a continuous basis? This is like Chertoff exclaiming earlier this summer that he had a 'gut feeling' that a terrorist attack would be coming soon.

If the administration was serious about defeating terrorism, it would be sinking alot of money into deploying existing technologies that would free us from mideast oil. Instead, we continue to fund both sides in this "global war on terrorism." End our dependence on foreign oil and you dry up the terrorists' funding.

James Woolsey: "If we aren't dependent on Saudi oil, we could be more insistent that the Saudis stop funding the hideous Wahhabi teaching of hatred of Shiites, Sufis, Jews, Christians, women, and democracy. I have no doubt they are still working on a really big one. I treat the threats of another large scale terroristic act the same way I treat hurricane season. I'm always prepared, but hope it doesn't come. In the back of my mind I know that sooner or later, one's luck runs out, and I'd rather be ready than one of the many who lives in denial and will run the streets with my hands in the air screaming for the government to come save me.
