I rarely use store bought seasonings when making ground beef tacos, preferring this well loved and well used recipe. These taste so much more authentic!

Â
1 lb ground beef
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4-1/2 t oregano or marjoram, rubbed
2 T Mexican chili powder (I used hot)
1/2 t salt
3/4 cup water
corn tortilla shells, fried and drained well
lettuce, shredded
tomato, diced
white Mexican cheese (I used queso cojita)
Brown beef on medium high heat. Drain well.
Reduce heat to medium and add remaining ingredients; simmer for 20 minutes.
I served the tacos topped with Mexican cheese, lettuce and tomato, along with Mexican rice and my salsa.
The recipe for the salsa can be found here: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977100013
One of my favorite meals of all.

YW.
Better hurry, Audrey. There's only 3 left!
And Rob, chili doesn't count.
You won't fit in in this family any longer.
Something always good from Shannon's kitchen. Thanks for dinner. Hate to eat and run but I gotta go.......
Well, Rob not the whole famdamily...
THanks, Katie. Sometimes, simple is good. Really good, in this case!
It's vacuum packed, white and crumbles.
I use chipotles in adobo, along with cumin, in my recipe for the meat and no oregano or marjoram. Top it off with a sharp cheddar, lettuce tomatoes, and jalapenos!
I know what I'm making for dinner tonight!
Thanks for the suggestion! Of course, with homemade salsa. I have some heirloom tomatoes and tomatillos I need to use up! I just watched a Rick Bayless show where he made homemade salsas, 3 ways. They all looked so good.
And I just LOVE salsa verde made with tomatillos!
Anyway, this sounds really good, Shannon. I wish dinner was sooner.
