Why don't some people use avatars?

I don't use my picture as my avatar but its still easier to identify than if there is no avatar. Using an avatar identifies yourself and gives you some presence. Why don't some people use it? Its easier to sort through when people use avatars.

An Avatar is the physical manifistacion of God in this world. In Hinduism Krishna is an Avatar.

I don't use an Avatar because I am not Hindu? The second meaning of the word is - any incarnation or embodiment, as of a quality or concept of a person - So I guess our icons are all avatar to some extent. John's is a cougar, mine an eagle. Flora's is a line drawing? In a loose interpertation an avatar is anything that says "this is me". Is a person's name then an avatar?

Icon is the correct term Icon comes from the Greek, meaning image

I like the word icon better. I find my friends fast by their icon. I can visit faster than looking through all the hum[ies.LOL

They may not know how. They may not be able to choose a picture (in which case, change it everyday!). They just may not feel like it.
