What do you remember about your childhood? (When I say childhood, I'm talking 5th grade and younger)
I distinctly remember the smell of Play-Doh. There was, and still is, nothing like it.
I remember refusing to use any crayon that was not a Crayola crayon. The others don't color as smoothly.
I liked Barbie coloring books.
I used to want to be an interior decorator and would by home the magazines at the sueprmaret filled with floorplans, then I would take a pencil and draw in where I'd place the furniture!
I remember my best friend Douglas. He had yellow hair. I lost him the year that all the girls seemed come down with cooties.
I remember how all of my classrooms in elementary school were set up. I also remember the names of all my teachers from K-5: Mrs. Cohen, Mrs. Finnegan, Mrs. Solerno, Mrs. Kaplan, Mrs. Dobrow, Ms. Grief.
I remember Arthur being so nervous about school in kindergarten that he threw up in the garbage can every day, at least twice a day.
I remember volunteering in 5th grade to be part of a group of kids at recess that stayed indoors and played dodgeball (back in my day, dodgeball wasn't dangerous)
I remember playing Oregon Trail and learning how to type using PAWS on old school computers.
I remember making initial book ends in Mr. Peck's shop class, located at the end of the hall next to the art room and across from the cafeteria.
I remember the little school store booth that sold pencils, erasers, and fun folders.
I remember the music room.
I remember fainting during 5th grade graduation practice because it was so hot in the auditorium that day.
I remember by bi-weekly visits to my grandparents.
I remember taking walks with my grandfather and picking up chestnuts.
I remember the layout of my Hebrew school and what many of the classes looked like when I attended classes. I also remember the smell and the principal, Mrs. Aranson being really nice!
I remember the day I was playing on the swing and it flipped over (it was the flat kind). I never went on that type of swing again.
I remember all of my 5th grade projects: the chicken bone project, Greek mythology, and artists.
I remember reading Mrs. Frisbee and the Rats of NIMH, Z for Zachariah, and The Phantom Tollboothe.
I remember the reading teacher always used the yellow mechanical pencils. Apparently, from what I hear, she still uses them! She also always smelled good.
I remember Mrs. Weiner, the science teacher, always wearing scarves around her neck and wearing really dark lipstick. She had super pale skin so it always looked funny.
What do you remember about your childhood?

That was considered a good time in my house
I remember (I was a little oder) getting my first pair of high heels for my aunt and uncle's wedding. They were wood wedge type sandals witha hole cut out of the heel. I got a pretty rust color dress too, I felt so grown up!
K-4 Teachers: Mrs Morgan, Mrs Henzey, Mrs Berger, Mr McIntyre, Mr Wolbert
K: I remember getting in trouble for talking and being put in the corner. And me trying to explain to my teacher that if my desk was further away, I'd just have to talk louder. The teacher used little pictures on each of our name tags that reminded her of each of our personalities. Most people got different pictures throughout the year. I was always a monkey.
1st: I remember fixing the broken clothespins in first grade that we used to keep our snowboots together once we got to school. I remember being able to do my own math projects in the back of the room by myself. I remember having to read to the class. I realize now these were all attempts to keep my quiet in class.
2nd: I remember being in the hall alot because I would correct the teacher about her facts. I got so mad, I'd look up things at home just to show her up. She called my handwriting atrocious; I didn't know what it meant, but thought any word that big had to be good. I was so proud until I got home and my mom explained it to me.
3rd: I remember flipping baseball cards in class. I remember learning cursive. I remember being told my hadwriting looked like a drunk chicken had done it. I told him a better word was atrocious. I remember standing up on the tables and singing the theme song to Greatest American Hero with the whole class.
4th: I remember Tim getting his mouth washed out with soap. I remember doing science experiments. I remember being told I reminded the teacher of a young Felix Unger from The Odd Couple.
I just remember a country life, being too sheltered and too naive. On the other hand, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Sounds like it was good for you, too!
Those are times that I wish my children could experience, but anymore everyone is too busy to spend time with family and friends.
I remember taking walks by myself, never being afraid of being kidnapped by strangers.
Loved going to the movies as a child, no tv then! Just loved life.
Unfortunately I hardly remember anything.
