My grandma lost her husband last year. This year, she lost her sister and brother in law. The four of them raised 11 kids on a one thousand acre farm in northern Michigan. Now, my grandma is alone, with all that land, and no one around her.
We've asked her multiple times to come and stay with us, but she is scared to leave that farm. She lived her whole life there, rarely traveled, and get nervous just thinking about leaving. It's quite sad actually, but also makes it difficult to help her. She's a strong woman, but how can you possibly live out your days alone like that?
We've tried to help her by making her life a bit easier. My parents installed a walk in shower to make her bathing much easier and safer. She has also suffered from terrible heel pain, and so we've looked into a heel spur treatment for her. But all of these things seem worthless when we're a few hundred miles away, and she's alone.
In Timothy, God shows us his heart for the widow. That we are to provide for them and take care of them. I hope that in the days to come, grandma will let us. If not, I fear the loneliness by itself will kill her.
