I have often wondered how we have come to the belief that public nudity is a bad thing. Based on what I see people wear (or not wear) at the beach, pool, or even on the streets, I have been confused as to why going that next step is such taboo.  Â
Now I am not talking about getting naked for the purpose of causing sexual excitement in another person. But doesn't dressing provocatively accomplish the same thing? In fact, I would argue that most people can look a lot sexier in provocative clothing then they can when they are naked. I found the 2000 Supreme Court case comical that ruled that cities and states may ban nude dancing as way of combating crime and other 'negative secondary effects.' The dancers were still allowed to wear just pasties and G-strings though. Now tell me how that is suppose to reduce crime, prostitution, sexual assaults or other "problems" that were blamed on the women dancing nude?Â
Nudity in art has generally been accepted as beautiful.  Even public nudity in art, i.e. public fountains that are resplendent with nude women, hardly raises a brow. Why is it so wrong for people to be naked in public then? Do you remember the news report of the priest who got caught a couple weeks ago jogging naked?   I never got a good reason from anyone why this was wrong except that it was against the law.   Several people said that it was because children might have seen it. But I ask, what kind of emotional scars is that going to cause?Â
I have gotten into numerous discussions with several "nudists" or "naturists" that like to go camping or go to nudist events and get natural on a regular basis. They even take their children with them. These are not big orgies or sex parties, but just plain ole "lets get naked" events.  Some do it for religious reasons. Some do it as a form of self expression. Some do it to feel more primitive.  I myself have been to nude beaches in Europe, and though it was a little interesting in the beginning, it soon became no big deal.
If you are offended by nudity, do you know why?  Is it just because we have been taught that it is a bad thing? Is it because you have so little self control that you might rush out and rape someone if you saw them naked (if so, shouldn't we also reconsider allowing provocative clothing also)?  Â
Joke:Â Two Statues
There were two nude statues, man and woman, standing across from each other in a secluded park. A few hundred years after they've been put in place, an angel fluttered down to them. A wave of his hand, and suddenly the statues had been given flesh, and they step down from their pedestals.
The angel said, "I have been sent to grant the mutual request you both have made after hundreds of years of standing across from each other, unable to move. But be quick--you only have fifteen minutes until you must become statues again."
The man looked at the woman, and they both flushed, giggled, and run off into some underbrush. An intense rustling came from the bushes, and seven minutes later, they both come back to the angel, obviously satisfied.
The angel smiles at the couple. "That was only seven minutes--why not go back and do it again?"
The former statues look at each other for a minute, and then the woman said, "Why not? But let's reverse it this time--you hold down the pigeon, and I'll poop on it...."
