Maybe I'm just fickle but whenever I buy a print sofa, whether an abstract pattern or floral, I find myself tiring of it. Same with bedspreads. But if I buy a plain colored sofa or bedspread, I can jazz them up with the pillows or some nice sheets or blankets. It seems more practical and cost-effective but with a print...well...you are stuck with it and sofas can be expensive!
So which do YOU prefer - solid colored sofas or plain? And why? And for bedspreads? Solid or plain?

For the big ticket item, we got a solid color sofa and then I found some really lovely print side chairs at an estate sale, brand new but the owner had to move unexpectedly due to a job transfer. They matched the sofa and I can recover them if I want. I don't mind the mix of prints and solids as the side chairs are relatively small and were inexpensive in comparison to that sofa. I guess my MAIN point was that solids may be better choices for big ticket items, the expensive ones.
Our living room and den have plain seating- jazzed up with African prints and pillows.

I agree. Also, I get tired of prints. Even if I buy a blouse or dress with a print, it starts to feel dated after awhile. This doesn't stop me from buying them because they are clothes and if I want that print...well....it doesn't cost a lot, compared to a sofa. But I still get tired of prints after awhile.
I'm not a wallpaper person either. A pain to take down and I just get tired of it. Funny thing, though, I have a friend who had the SAME wallpaper for 20 years in her kitchen and she still loves it. I put striped wallpaper in our bathroom and had to take it down after two years. I just couldn't take it anymore. LIke I said, my tastes change quickly.
I like accessories and different pillows but I like to start from a solid background.
Maybe it is like dog and cat people...except....I like both!
Solids, prints, solids, prints...
