Shopping for Back to Work Clothing

Well, I have to break down and do it because like it or not, in about a week I am back to work. So, on Tuesday, my sister in law and I will head for the stores. I hate clothes shopping, only rarely do I find something that is really awesome and fits perfectly. Then of course, there is the whole hating to part with the money idea. I just hate paying $25 and more for shoes or $30 for pants, it drives me crazy. However, I have learned that you get what you pay for and if I buy too cheap, I am right back at it by January !! Which I certainly don't want to do.

So, when you shop for clothes, what is your favorite store? Do you do your shopping in a certain day, or do you buy constantly avoiding the BIG shopping day that I must go and do?

I usually buy business attire, but what I do is buy classic styles of the highest possible quality. I also buy clothes that I can mix and match easily. Buying a good pair of shoes, blazer, etc. a little every month builds your wardrobe quickly.

I have a regional store that I go to, but Nordstrom's Rack outlet has a wide selection, high quality and a reasonable price.

i usually buy casual stores. i don't have to dress up for work. i usually go to the thrift stores to see if they have what i'm lookin for first of all and then i go to macy's.

I love Macy's and J.C Penny's but I fine alot of my blazers and slacks at the thirft stores that sell brand new items. And they have all of the labels and many that I couldn't afford to buy at regular price. I have every color blazer and jacket you can get...

P.S I found a brand new Chanel bag last year...

New York & Co. has a lot of good work clothes and I always get coupons for this store. If you sign up at their website you automatically get to print out a coupon. I find a lot of good things there, but they don't have much for shoes.

I hit up JC Penney's and check their clearance racks. It's the SAME clothes for a fraction of the price. When they get new stuff in, they have to make room, and sell the older stuff for as cheap as they can. And this is pretty regular. They have a huge 75% off clearance right now.

Brian has some great advice. The first year, I pretty much went with one or two colors. Boring? Yes. But I was able to make 10 outfits out of what was basically four.
J.C. Penney's is a good store for basics...suits, shirts, etc. Sometimes you can find shoes at a good price, but usually they're above your price range. You might want to check out Ross's Dress for Less. I do very well there.

If there's anyway possible, postpone your trip to Thursday. That's when the weekend sales start.

I very rarely go clothes shopping. Walmart is usually okay with me. I have a rather big mall near where I live and they do have a store I like. Its called VF Factory Outlet. I get my T-shirts and sweatpants out there. I don't work outside the home so I don't need the real fancy clothes.

I love shopping for clothes...and shoes:) My favorite stores are Talbots and Chicos. Talbots I wait for the sales, Chicos is what my daughter calls "funky clothes for cool moms"...who wouldn't want to shop there?

When it comes to work, I want to look professional but there is one area where I will not compromise when it comes to comfort - SHOES. I was hit by a drunk driver and one foot was smashed so if I wear heels, I end up limping for weeks! It is a challenge but I manage to find work shoes that have a heel or are flat but still look stylish.

I generally start with the shoes and then try to find suit jackets and skirts or pants that will work with the shoes.

It may seem funny to START with shoes but I have been frustrated too often by finding a great outfit but no matching shoes which are comfortable.

I wear business casual at work so slacks, a nice shirt and decent comfortable shoe are all I need. Oh and a couple of sweaters for winter. I shop at Old Navy, Kohl's, and used to shop at LS Aryes and Lazarus until Macy's came to Indiana. Sometimes I can find things at Meijers too, but not often.
Oddly I enjoy shopping for clothes .I f I can get one great suit with and extra pair of pants and several tops to complement along with a vest and some scarves /ties to go with I can make a while wardrobe out of it.I take pride in being able to buy expensive suits that last longer rather than for to five cheaper ones that don't stand the test of time

It is best to invest in some good quality classic clothing that you can mix and match. Some things are almost timeless, and you can keep for years.
