I downloaded my second attempt at Linux. This time Ubuntu, touted as the one that might actually be the Linux for real people. And it had exacatly the same problem as the Fedora version I installed before. Pretty front end, nice easy to operate and find system stuff and a promise of plenty of apps BUT no way to get connected to the internet. In this day and age an operating system that brags of all the apps available online and how supportive the community is etc. and then gives me no way to get online ...well stupid is about the only thing I can call it. And it is not like I use some strange connection method. I connect by a USB wireless adapter to a Comcast supplied modem-router, a method that must be used by literally millions. All I can say is if you want to be taken seriously, Ubuntu (and other Linux forms), you better get your act together. 'Don't quite work' pieces of major systems are a disaster even if they only affect a minor (thought certainly not tiny) protion of the user base.
Why would I change to a system that does not do the most important thing I use a computer for? I may find Microsoft arrogant and untrustworthy and not nearly as good as they could and should be but at least they work for what I need most.
