I have a question: When the instructions say "each 3 x 3 block" should I take that to mean only columns 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9?
Or could it also be taken to mean 1-3, 2-4, 3-5, 4-6, 5-7 etc ?
Either way, I'm pretty sure this is beyond me. But the second way would make it well nigh to impossible for me.

Jim Swan's "None-To-Great Hits" now on iTunes. Featuring the title song from his novel, "Dawn in Honolulu"
Square 1 = 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 19, 20, 21
square 2 = 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 22, 23, 24
square 3 = 7, 8, 9, 16, 17, 18, 25, 26, 27
square 4 = 28,29, 30, 37, 38, 39, 46, 47, 48
square 5 = 31, 32, 33, 41, 42, 43, 49, 50, 51
square 6 = 34, 35, 36, 43, 44, 45, 52, 53, 54
square 7 = 55, 56, 57, 64, 65, 66, 73, 74, 75
square 8 = 58, 59, 60, 67, 68, 69, 76, 77, 78
square 9 = 61, 62, 63, 70, 71, 72, 79. 80, 81
Now, it would be much easier to figure the 3x3 blocks if you take a marker and darken the surrounding lines around each 3 quebic square. Hope this helps. But the numbers 1 thru 9 cannot be repeated in either the lines across or up and down. Good luck. Once you do one you may be addicted like I was. Each 3 quebic square has all the numbers 1 - 9. If counting the rows, top to bottom, rows 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 each have the number 5, so only rows 8 and 9 can use a 5, so which one block will the two rows have a 5? rows across 1-9 have the number 5 in rows 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, so that narrows the placing of the number 5 to only a few blocks left. The number 5 has to fit in either block 64, 73, 72, or 81. Now are you completely and totally lost? if you need to see what other Sudoku puzzle look like go to the website http://www.krazydad.com/sudoku/index.php?diff=EZ and print a copy. It defines the grids better. I just didn't have any way to do so on here. Maybe this is too difficult to demonstrate on this site. hmmm sorry
