We're always asking our kids to make a list of 5 things that they might want for their birthday or Christmas. Yet when it comes time for our birthdays, my husband and I tend to spend any gift money on necessities (which is why no one buys us Wal-Mart gc's anymore!) instead of a real treat. Don't get me wrong -- we know how to play as hard as we work and spend money throughout the year on entertainment or relaxation. But birthdays aren't what they used to be for us grown-ups.
So what are 5 things that you would list, if you could have something you wanted for your next birthday? I don't mean abstract stuff like "world peace" or an "understanding boyfriend/husband/girlfrient/wife". Let's be material for a minute and think of cool "stuff" we'd love to have, just like we did when we were kids.
Hmmm, what would be on my wish list?
1) A few books from my 4-page list of titles I'd like to read
2) The "Bowling for Soup" music cd's I don't have yet -- I have 4.
3) Disney stuff. Not picky. T-shirts and other fun stuff to wear to the theme parks when we go. Those cute Mickey-ears ice cube trays or other kitchen gadgets.
4) Hummel figurines to add to my scant collection
5) Phillies stuff: memorabilia, baseball cards, jerseys, etc.

A girl can dream, can't she?
$$$$$
Going out to the movies
Books
A few days away
That's it.
2. books
3. Flute lessons
4. to have my living room painted
5. landscape to prevent my garage from flooding.
Sara, I played flute for about a year in elementary school. Just when I was getting decent at it, I had an orthodontic nightmare installed in my mouth and had to give it up. When my nephews came to kiss me goodnight one evening and ran away crying, I tossed the expensive device and said the heck with that! I do miss the flute and would like to get back to it someday.
Lots of power tools for my workshop.
A high-end Digital SLR still camera.
A new desktop computer.
A palm pilot.
B&N gift cards.
Someone to mow my lawn (cause this heat is just ...stupid).
Big, widescreen TV.
Big LCD monitors for my computers instead of the old CRTs I still use.
More dates with my wife.
Someone to babysit so my wife and I could go out more.
Paid-for travel.
Yeah, we miss doing the date thing out, so we do 'em at home. No one wants to babysit 4 kids at once!
1) Go to Disney World!
2) Landscape our yard (front AND back)
3) Have my 1974 Chevy Nova all "fixed up"
4) a promotion at work
5) kids (this one won't ever come true since I can't have kids and can't afford adoption; but I can still wish).
