I have found a cool site that lets you find out how many people actually visit your article. It takes a few extra steps, but it will be there for you and all to see.
There are tons of different sites with counters. For this page, I have used http://www.hitcountermaster.com/ as the page for the counter. Some places say you have to download something, but you really do not have to download anything at all.
First you have to create your article and publish it so that it is not actually published for anyone to see but you. Then hpyerlink the article, go to the site where you get the counter from and create your counter.
Come back here edit your article, add the counter, then publish for everyone to see...
I am going to go and try all this now.
I am back and I am entering the code below
// <p><a href="http://www.paydayadvancecashloans.com" target="_blank"><b>payday loans</b></a></p> <p>PLEASE NOTE: Our system deactivates your counter automatically if code is altered.<p></p> <p><a href="http://www.idealcarloans.com" target="_blank"><b>bad credit car loans</b></a></p>
that did not work.. so here is this code.. i did not permalink this time to the article..

You need to be very cautious in the use and promotion of these services, as many of them violate Gather's Terms of Service due to the information that they can potentially collect and pass on to other services or commercial ventures.
Kevin- While I realize you're trying to be helpful, that wasn't helpful at all LOL. Can someone please clarify if a page counter is something that would be allowed or not?
Maybe Gather will someday add this as a selectable feature for articles so people don't have to use outside sources for such.
It's the sort of thing I'd love to know and, Bill, if you do know I'd love you to share...
Personally I wouldn't visit, or trust, any content that used one of these services.
I see that the counter stopped at 8 and there definitely has been more hits here than 8... so it really did not work like it said it would.
I'm sorry to 'burst your bubble'! :-(
From what I understand, Gather is actively exploring additional statistical tools for our content...so hopefully we will see that soon! :-)
I hope they get the statistics soon..
So Kevin, you did not burst my bubble.. you just showed us all that sometimes things are not what the seem... and I am glad you brought this to my attention right away and not let me think that amount of people actually visited this page.
This counter counts anything and everything as a
hit. That is not a real count. I just bumped your
counter up 6 numbers by hitting refresh on the page.
The only useful counter would be one that tracks
unique viewers. This counts refreshes, revisits,
even posting a comment will increment this counter!
but hey, what ya gonna do,does it really matter
to many fake people no matter where ya go
Now you're making me think! Thanks!
