My progress in my search for weight loss has been frustrating at best. I haven't really lost any pounds, some inches, but not alot of actually bona fide weight loss. To remedy this, I decided to keep a "food diary." Boy! What an eye-opener!
Let's start with a typical day. Mmmmm....okay, I'm a coffee addict. Problem #1. I also take cream and sugar. Not alot, but enough. Mainly the sugar. Okay, next grocery shop I make the switch to Equal. But I never imagined how many calories I take in drinking my normal pot every morning. It's not filling, and shoot, each teaspoon isn't alot of calories, but they sure do add up!
Skip breakfast. A big NO-NO if you're dieting. I've found that I more than make up for the loss of breakfast calories by the end of the day. My portions and appetite are much larger in the evening if I skipped breakfast! Time to start eating those whole grain cereals I purchased, perhaps even with some fruit!
Another revelation: I will fill my plate for dinner. I'm just used to it. Okay, maybe I try to fill the space with more veggies, but mashed potatoes aren't the best way to go. If I choose a baked potato, I will stuff it with some sour cream, (better than butter but not at two tablespoons!), and can't eat the skin without it!
My new resolve: Continue the food diary and eat off a salad plate. I will NOT stuff that; to do so would defeat the whole purpose, but at least I'm headed in the right direction. Cut down the coffee; I get the jitters anyway after my pot. I'm sticking to water and/or Crystal Light for my beverages. I don't think I'm dehydrated because I DO drink plenty of fluids, but I have to stop cheating with pop. Yeah, real pop. I know, bad me!
There is some good to all this work over the last 3 months; I feel much better physically. I still get tired easily, but I feel more "fit." I even have been able to jog during more of my travels in the early a.m.. I also find that I feel better if I do this morning bit early and watch the sun rise during my jaunt. So I've set the alarm for 5 a.m.; this gives me enough time to start my coffee, turn on the 9 & 10 News and boot up my computer and start the spyware scan. Then I'm off to watch the bunnies sneaking away from their attack on the neighborhood gardens and see the birds flitting about. I never knew we had so many bunnies around here!

That's will power.
Rob: I used to be able to do the no caloric intake and it worked quite well for me, but as I've aged I find it harder to do. I tend to get the shakes after 1/2 a day. I might be borderline diabetic, but with no health insurance I can't get it checked out! (Diabetes runs rampant in both sides of my family!)
Any one know about honey instead of sugar in coffee? Any tips welcome!
My dad only uses honey in his coffee, i don't care for the flavor of honey personally but he loves it!
Also, I fast once a week with some V-8 for breakfast and dinner and apple/whatever juice for lunch. It works well for me.
Like you I am genetical incapable of putting less food on a regular sized plate! We have become sooooo ingrained into the "biggie" or "supersized" mentality when it comes to food, we feel cheated when we eat less than enough to gorge ourselves!
