What Paths have you taken
my dear lone wolf
that have carried you so far away?
What trail do you follow?
What hunts your path?
What bars you from turning our way?
Why do you go on
ever in darkness?
Never to see light of day?
What has hurt you so
that keeps you going on
ever further from your pack to stay?
What fuels your need
to hunt so far from home
and pull you ever away?
Oh my child, hear our call
and plea for you now
before life pulls you astray.
Your pack is at home
and they know these ways well
You are not the first lost through this door.
And with LOVE in their hearts
their call sounds as one
resounding throughout the forest floor
Come home Little One
You are one that we love
Regardless of paths tread through the door
Please come home Little One
let it hurt you no more
We are your family and we'll tend all your sores
The call of the family was strong
and sounded a heat-warming song
but Little One just could not be sure
How can they heal my pain
or even hope to understand
They've not been here, they are too pure!
The family song sang again
and Little One's hope did remain
You see we've all gone outside.
We have all wandered astray
and the pack found us in pain
and since then, as a family, we did abide.
As the song began to fade
Little One did too, as her heart
finally wavered, and broke.
As the darkness closed in
Little One thought to give in so
she laid down and awaited death's stroke.
As she waited alone
in the darkness unknown
her thoughts had begun to show.
Oh my dear family where could you be?
Why did I not reach out
to just one that I know?
With love all around me and
my family to guide, why did
I come out to the darkness to die?
“Oh my Child, don’t you see
all their love does not replace Me?
Though I was here all along!
Some young wolves, it seems
can only truly hear me
when they are completely on their own.”
Little One was startled to hear
a still small voice in her ear
and realize the Great One was here
As she bowed her head down
and the light was showing all around
He said, “Don’t make me repeat this next year!”
Now the light was gone
and yet Little One understood
she would never be completely alone!
She would have the love of her pack
always at her back and the Great One
to guide her heart home
