I don't get the thinking that someone else's marriage is at all a reflection on or detracts from someone else's. I've seen the stupid email forwards going on about "attacks on (straight) marriage." Get real.

I totally agree with you on this one. Although I am straight I say that if what someone else is doing is not affecting the way you are living your life then why are you worrying about it.

I agree 100% folks need to say out of other folks business it is as simple as that. I don't want to know what someone else does in their bedroom I have enough on my hands taking care of what goes on in mind. I have been married to the same man for 37 years but you still have to work at it. People act like they would be during Gays a favor if they let them get married. Marriage is hard work and alot of responsibilty personally I envy some of them their freedom from these responsibilty's. But for those that want to take on this burden they should have that right and be able to do it with out some religious nut screaming at them. I know a writer who has published many many books for young people and she and her partner were together for 52 years before her partner died of cancer a couple of years ago. They had a wonderful life owned property including a vacation cottage and paid a great deal in taxes to this country. And they were alot more committed to one another then many of our hetro-sexual couples. I was sad that they were not able to be legally married to each other before she died. And for those that always compare homo-sexually to having sex with animals or say they are molesting children. I wonder about them and what is going on in their fantasy world they are so quick to throw this up maybe its their private desire,

Gay is gay and I believe why would someone choose to be Gay("an outcast)". Times are changing and it is more acceptable. My best guy friend is gay and I am not at all worried about him around my kids. He likes men, not kids, so that is NOT an issue that is interchangable. What people do in the privacy of their bedrooms are not our business. I feel live and let live. If you ostracize others because of color, race, sexual preference, long hair, tatoos or any superficial reasons like that then YOU miss out on possibilities on how they can enhance your world. AGAIN, this is just my opinion.

I remember many, many years ago when NAMBLA a pedophile group wanted to be included in the gay community here in Cleveland. It almost got bloody. They never were part of our community and as a matter of fact, a bunch of us followed some of them home and went to all their neighbors and told them about who lived near them. Hmm. Did you know that in France everyone has a civil union and then if they want a religious ceremony they get married in their own church. Found this out when I was on a rant about Edwards and Obama dodging the gay marriage bullet.

Frankly, I don't care what they call it, as long as my kids have the same benefits as straights in monogamous, committed relationships do, it's fine by me.

What pisses me off to no end is when people thing of pedophiles, they automatically think HOMOSEXUAL! Well news flash, grown men pray on little girls too. About 95% of my friends are gay, and the ones that are in relationships have more functional relationships than the 5% of straight friends I have.

Getting married or legal committed to someone else is a civil right. I would have thought the lawyers would be pushing this through for Gay people. After all their business would increase with the Divorces. What people do behind closed doors is their problem. I think it is far better for Gay people to be who they are than to hide or live lives that are false. Many in the past got married to please their families and society or to be "normal" and it's not fair to them or their spouses. I don't think anyone is "normal". If you are gay you are not going to be very happy in a heterosexual marriage you didn't want and neither will your spouse be very happy knowing something is not right and they just can't make you happy. I think when it comes to sin it is between me and God and you and God. Statistics show that there are many more heterosexual child pedophiles than homosexual pedophiles. Two Bible verses come to my mind, Love one another, and he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I'm all for it. When any two people care for each other enough to commit to each other for life, they should be able to do it with the ritual of their choice. Love and committment can't be wrong. I can't imagine why some heterosexual Christians feel their own marriages are threatened by different customs of other people who love each other. Gayness is not a choice, it's a condition a lot of people are born with. It doesn't prevent them from excelling in their life's work. It would be interesting to read an article about how other nations look upon their gay citizens.

Good article. I have to agree with those who say marriage should be there for gay people. I don't see how constitutionally the United States has kept this down for so long. Love is an emotion, and you know if it's for a mother/father, friend, sibling or that for a life partner. No law is going to obliterate love that commits whether it has a ritual to justify it or not. Sexual identification does not determine pedophilia.

The truth , I knew a women (no Names) who was the head of her department whom I respected an admired, to know her was to like her. Her life mate and her raised a fine son who grw up with mine. A couple of years ago her life mate died of breast cancer. I felt so bad for her thay truly loved each other very much. I don't see how they were any different from any other couple.

People can be mean. People sometimes like to be mean and think the worst of others. I was quick to comment earlier I agreed with gay marriage. The sibling and animal stuff I just don't know where it comes from. And you're right. Pedophilia is not the same as homosexuality or heterosexuality. Maybe it is people sometimes feel the need to if unable to convert you to their way of thinking, the next best approach is to destroy and render helpless. I don't know. But somehow I think it comes down to fear. Logic certainly doesn't get into it a lot when the issue of gay marriage is brought up. Were logic and ethics and constitution and morality involved, gay marriage would be just another marriage without all the upset.

I think gay marriage is one of those topics used by politicians to muddy the waters and prevent real topics from being discussed.
As for why animals are mentioned whenever homosexuality is the topic I have no idea. But I was wondering, with the Michael Vick dogfighting case, how come late term abortion gets mentioned when the topic of dogfighting comes up. I have heard it a few times...The gist is we care more for dogs than unborn children, but I think it is more apples and oranges.

I have a lot of str8 friends but thankfully they're mostly in the closet about it. Many of THEM have married successfully and lead perfectly miserable lives afterwards. Why are people trying to make US suffer as well? Marriage is marriage. Do it, don't do it - what's the big deal?

I agree 100%......Then, child sex abuse, a vicious cycle, will end in one generation. Then, this purposefully mixed-up 'issue' will be clarified.

I also think that the Gay community should come out in total support of a "humane surgical procedure" to remove the tool of violence. Cuz that is what it is....violence inflicted on someone; not real human sexuality. THEN, people will see that this isn't a gay issue.....its a twisted sick person issue. And, yes, being gay isn't twisted/sick...its just very different than many folks are used to....so it's lumped together wrongly with Peter's animals, and such.... such is the infliction of pain through ignorance. How about we stop the real pain against defenseless children? Lets find a way to make Jean's 'solution' a legal remedy. THEN, things will change....and quickly.

That always does amuse me when a opponent of gay marriage resorts to the people marrying farm animals or their family argument lol. If opponents of gay marriage want to keep gay people from enjoying the same rights as straight people, they should have to come up w/ something much more concrete than the "sancity of marriage" argument. It doesn't take any rights away from straight people, so why do people feel the need to take rights away from gays? just don't go to a gay wedding or watch one on tv if you don't like it lol

I as well am starting to get sick of hearing these remarks. I am a homosexual and am it really bothers me to hear these things.. The love and passion that we have is something so natural that we often forget many are against it. There are no ties to animal love or sibling love when talking about homosexuality. That makes absolutely no sense and it makes me sick to think that there are people out there that hate us so much that they would try to deny our rights as humans and compare us to pedophiles.

I couldn't agree more. I am the first to say that I love my husband in one way that is deep and wonderful... I love my cats in a VERY different way, and my sister in yet another way. If I had kids, I'm sure I'd love them, without coming close to pedophilia. People who make these claims do not understand (or claim to not understand) the different dimensions of love.
