Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. is blocking the nomination of the CIA General Counsel. Why might you ask, because, "I'm going to keep the hold until the detention and interrogation program is on firm footing, both in terms of effectiveness and legality," and "I am not at all convinced that the techniques outlined in these guidelines are effective, nor am I convinced that they stay within the law." I do not think that is what our founders had in mind. This guy would be the first to rise from the ranks of a low level CIA employee to General Counsel, not a patronage appointment. Advice and consent means that on the quality of the employee not whether you agree with the department. He should recieve a vote and if the Senator feels the need to delve into these practices of the CIA they can do that through the investigative process.

just wondering
Now the question is: is John Rizzo the best person for the job or a crony of w's?
Do you know Publius?
It is hard for John Rizzo to be W's cronnie when he has been working in the CIA of 30 years. And has served as interim general cousel twice. This would be the first time someone took the most qualified cantidate at CIA rather then bringing a cronie in.
Carol-
The senate is given advice and consent. Not blackmail and consent. If you look at the Federalist they should be judged and voted and if they dont like the cantidate the President will send anoher. Just vote voting on a nominee does nothing except prevent the postion from being filled
it doesn't see like it would be a stretch
not to mention I think if you are a conservative --- or reinforce w-ian views
you are crony by default
you are crony by default"
this is a bit of a stretch for a reliable def.,
As for Bush 41 he was involved in the CIA before he bacame Vice President. But at the time he was there this guy was at the bottom of the food chain so I find it a stretch that he would have much interaction with the director of CIA
This senitor Wyden is blocking the nomination of the man nomnated to fix a problem until the problem is fixed?
How can one senitor block a nomination? Why does ONE senitor have that kind of power?
It is called DIRTY POLITICS and both parties, Democrap and Republicons are guilty of it.
This is an attempt to change the power set by the constitution. If the congress does not want the president to appoint people they should change the law. Or put the name up and let everyone vote on the nomination. That way our representatives get to vote and we can express our opinion to them as to how they vote.
But when the Senator from Oregon puts a hold on the vote it puts the people of Oregon in control, higher than the congress, the president or the supreme court.
Not right and we should not allow action like this from either party.
I guess we both proved that we don't know what we ar talking about...
