It's Official...Dale Jr. Will NOT be driving #8 next year

Hendrick and DEI could not reach acceptable terms, so Dale Jr. will have a new number next year. However, it has not yet been announced what number he will have. He has said previously that if he couldn't drive the #8, he would like to have the #81 that he has driven in the Busch series. More wait and see, I guess.

I really liked the old system. Drivers were numbered according to their points standing in the previous season. You had to be a real fan to know at the beginning of the season who was driving the number 12 car. But, seeing a 12 or 14 come in in the top five was a thrill. Especially if you were a fan of the driver. It made for some odd numbers in the field though, Since you had to be a driver, with a license to get into a sanctioned race, there were occasionally cars wearing three digits.

Thats really interesting. As a non-fan I didn't know the numbers were there for any real purpose other than identification. That's a really neat bit of info!

I just do not see how Dale Jr's step-mom can make it without him. I think his number is 11 this year.
