Yes, it was big news when Karl Rove resigned his White House position a couple days back and said goodbye to his old buddy George W. Bush whom he has known for 30 years or so. Off into the sunset he strode, farewell to the trappings of power, the political dirty tricks, the spin doctoring, the vote counting...
Well, that was a brief vacation. Yesterday Rove spoke on Rush Limaugh's radio show, slamming Senator Clinton as un-electable due to her high negative ratings. Yes, said Rove, she will gain the Dem nomination, but she is doomed in her quest to become President because too many people dislike her. Hey Karl, there are quite a few Americans who dislike you, and Rush, do not even get me started on your hypocrisy regarding drug abuse and the popularity fallout of that one. But this is America, the pot is free to call the kettle black.
What was the point of all this? Was Rove weighing in on Clinton's chances in order to steer the nomination toward Obama or Edwards, finally generously acting for the good of the nation in a way that is totally free of partisan slant? Do not seek to make me laugh. It was merely Rove's first visit to the Republican base, seeking to energize them against the Dems in 2008. Electioneering and partisanship is Rove's life, and being out of the White House will not change that. He does not sek to improve Dems, he seeks to defeat them, to humiliate them, and to eradicate them.
An objective observer, if one is even possible at this point, would wonder why Rove ever had a White House job in the first place. Isn't the White House supposed to be reserved for people who are trying to make our nation a better place, and to accomplish meaningful progress irrespective of political concerns? An objective observer would miss the point. With George W. Bush it was never about accomplishing anything for the nation as a whole. It was always believed by him and by Karl that accomplishing partisan gain for his base and his financial and social allies is synonymous with making America a better place, because Right wingers really are the only true Americans. Thanks for the memories, Karl, and God bless you for your many temporary accomplishments!
Now please shut up.
