We are very pleased to announce that the winner in the Gather.com “Express Yourself” Poetry Contest is Arlene H., for her poem “The Lagoon.” She has won $100 from Gather, and of course, bragging rights. Her poem will also be making an appearance on our homepage. Please join me in congratulating Arlene!
Contest judge Jonathan Neihart, poet and creator of MoonTownCafe.com, had this to say about the winning poem: " 'The Lagoon' is a nostalgic excavation of the imagination of a child. It is one of those pieces that haunts you for a long time after you read it."
We would also like to congratulate our runner-up, Karen W., for her poem “B O A R D W A L K – Santa Cruz.” Karen has won a $20 Borders Gift Card.
“This contest was extremely difficult to judge due to all the talent in the Gather.com community,” said Jonathan. In fact, it was such a tough choice that he would like to award "honorable mentions" to the following poems:
Superior by Jesse BC
Faint While Reading My Grocery List by bob v.
Your Form--Your Count by Lydia O
hummingbird by Bret W
Friday Night on River Street by Amy Clark
November by M A
Travel the Poetry Cup by Jim Ross
Thanks to all of you who participated in this contest and shared your work with the Gather community – we are honored to have such gifted poets in our midst!
