Sadly, Phil Rizzuto has passed away at 89 years old and he will be missed by many people. The Hall of Fame shortstop during the Yankees' dynasty years had a hard time getting into the hall of fame. He played for the Yankees throughout the 1940s and '50s, won seven World Series titles, was an AL MVP and played in five All-Star games. My father use to tell me stories about his great plays and that he had no errors in 21 World Series games.
I am a Yankee fan and a great one is gone. He played during the times when players were there because they enjoyed playing and didn't make much money. I will remember him as a great broadcaster and the cow that knocked him over. I loved his phrases including "What a huckleberry!" and "Holy cow".
He was a great family man and was married in 1943 and we sure don't see a lot of people stay married that long. My prayers to his family at this sad time.
