I just finished reading this book By Rowan Scarborough.
I know there are going to be those here who believe that this is nothing more than another Bushie writing for the Bush administration. Maybe it is but I'll ask you to consider something even wilder. What if everything in it is true? I have to say that as I read it I became mad, dumb founded, and a little nervous .
One of the first quotes from the book is "The Director of Central Intelligence shall be responsible for national intelligence..... Such intelligence should be timely, objective, independent of political considerations" National Security Act of 1947, creating the CIA
Reading the book seems to show a CIA over run with political pay backs. Turf war's. And anger that their information is questioned and reviewed. One problem I've had with the CIA of late is that for being those charged with finding and keeping secrets there seem to have been a lot of leaks over the last six years. And everyone of them have been something that has damaged this administration. I know some will feel that these leakers are "patriot's", but I'm not sure how leaking how we are trying to catch the next 9/11 plotters is helping anyone other than the plotters. How are we suppose to get people within these terrorist organization to spy for us if they could be exposed from a leak.
The book also talks about how the CIA lost large numbers of it's veteran personnel due to budget cuts, and how so many current agents don't have much of the needed experience.
I've read many times here how President lied about Iraq having WMD's and that intelligence was wrong. The CIA were the ones charged with getting that information to him and their failure to have accurate intel is also talked about in the book.

I don't normally read this type of book(makes my head hurt) but I found this book easy to read and understand . The book felt more like I was having a conversation with the author about the subject.
I guess my impressions on the book are that if even part of this book is true then what does it say about the organization charged with protecting us. I recommend reading it.

I used to listen to the Tony Trupiano show regularly, and he used to have a controversial guest as a regular...can't recall his name offhand. He was some sort of former insider, either from the CIA or some other intelligence group. At any rate, years ago, he said that the CIA had carved out a deal with Poppy Bush to keep some of the Bush crime family's criminal connections and activities quiet, supposedly because of Poppy's long-standing ties to the CIA.
When junior stole office, he basically launched an all-out war against the CIA, basically because they wouldn't cough up the information that he wanted to see, in order to justify his illegal invasion of Iraq. I recall one point, early on in the propaganda march to fooling the public, when Rumsfeld openly stated that if the CIA wasn't able to come up with the intelligence that the administration wanted to see, he was going to create a new intelligence agency within the pentagon, which, of course, he did.
The fact is, the administration relied almost solely on two sources for their "intelligence." One was a proven liar and habitual drunkard, and the other was a convicted felon. (Curveball and Chalabi)
The administration threw away all intelligence that the CIA offered that didn't support their agenda, and embraced only that which they could use as "proof" to justify their illegal war.
Through this process, Cheney frequently made unprecedented and frequent visits to the CIA, to virtually harass the intelligence gatherers, and cherry pick what he could use.
When it became obvious that there were no WMD and thus no valid justification for the invasion, the administration immediatley blamed the CIA, for providing "faulty intelligence."
Additionally, after the administration chose to place an outright lie, that the CIA had repeatedly warned them not to use, in the 2003 SOTUS, Joe Wilson stepped forward (In July) to discount the fraudulent claim that had been made.
As retribution for him speaking the truth, the administration leaked the name and occupation of his wife, who just happened to be a critical covert CIA operative who specialized in the field of WMD.
The CIA was so infuriated with this leak that they immediately requested a full DOJ investigation, to determine who had leaked this information. This was a direct assault on a critical CIA operative, and on the CIA itself, and caused immeasurable harm to the agency's ability to gather intelligence.
The radio show guest (and myself) firmly believed at the time that it would result in the Bush crime family criminal activities and ties to corruption around the world being uncovered by the CIA. Instead, what appears to have happened is that the old school CIA members have been shoved out the door, and significant parts of the intelligence operations have been outsourced to private companies.
We may never learn the full aspects of the tremendous damage that this criminal white house has done to this nation, but it's quite clear that the damage that they've caused through their war with the CIA is significant and will be lasting.

The Robb-Silverman Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction report from March 31, 2005 said
"The intelligence community did not make or change any analytic judgements in responce to political pressure to reach a particular conclusion, but the pervasive conventional wisdom that Saddam retained WMD affected the analytic process.. We have found no evidence to dispute that it was, as analysts assert, their own independent judgement- flawed though they were- that led them to the conclution that Iraq had active WMD programs"

What I have read say's just what the BA said.
According to this same report "When ccoordinating the State of the Union, no Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analysts or officials told the National Security Council (NSC) to remove the "16 words" or that there were concerns about the credibility of the Iraq-Niger uranium reporting. A CIA official's original testimony to the Committee that he told the NSC official to remove the words "Niger" and "500 tons" from the speech, is incorrect."
That doesn't sound to me like the scenario that you proposed.
What about the damage done during the CA to the CIA. During the CA time they reduced both the military and the CIA.
The senate never completed their investigation. There were two phases to the investigation. One involved the information that was presented, and the second phase was to determine whether or not the intelligence had been cherry-picked, where important information that would counter the administration's claims were cast aside, while fraudulent information was brought forth (which was obviously the case, as anyone with 1/2 a brain could determine).
And, it shouldn't surprise you, after seeing how passionate bushovics are about lying, particularly to congress, that phase one would find the information that they found, wouldn't you think? Initially, however, the comments from unnamed CIA sources were that they absolutely felt pressured and intimidated by Cheney's dick.

So much for your precious report, huh? Guess what? The 911 commission report was utter bullshit as well. Go figure, huh? Who would ever guess that such an "honest, forthright, open" white house would lie so repeatedly, in order to cover up their many heinous crimes? I mean, surely they'd have no motive at all to cover up their crimes, right?
Btw, you might also not be aware that both Cheney's Dick and Rummy were present and accounted for when the previous most corrupt republiCON administration abused power and thwarted the constitution for their own wicked agenda. And, they were very close to the next corrupt republiCON administration, while they violated the constitution in conducting illegal transactions and war during the 80's. It's possible, just POSSIBLE, that they may have learned a thing or two about covering up their crimes, while they were busy refining their criminal activities.

However, as I've shown you, what actually happened is not what was found in that report. Sorry. The very reason why Joe Wilson published his infamous "What I did not find in Niger" article in July was because he was infuriated that the white house had stated what they did, when he had specifically told the CIA, and had been assured by them, that there would be no reference to it in the SOTUS.

During the CA, there were two cabinet level meetings held every week, to discuss counter terrorism, and specifically, the great CIA asset, Osama Bin Laden. When Bush stole office, one of his early commands to the FBI was to "back off the bin Laden's. Weird, huh?

Next, take a gander at the massive lies published by the 9/11 commission, which was also supposedly "bi-partisan," or even "non-partisan," and then tell me again how absurd it would be to assume that it could be repeated. Finally, explain why the reports from insiders BEFORE phase one were completely the opposite of what they were DURING phase one, and then perhaps you could explain why phase two, which would REALLY uncover the dirt and details, was never conducted.
