How To Make A Lavender Herbal Pillow (for relaxation and better sleep)
My husband had been having trouble sleeping due to medical problems and pain. It's hard to relax that way. I took some material and hand-sewed with dental floss as it doesn't unravel or break, a bed pillow, leaving part of the top open.
I ordered 20 pounds of lavender, the french lavender, which was way more than I needed but it's hard to tell. I still have lots left so I'll be making other things with it. We stuffed the pillow with over 10 pounds of lavender herb and I hand-stitched the pillow together. Since it's the same size as his bed pillow, we stuck a pillow case on it and put it on the bed.
One of our two cats loves it and sleeps very soundly. The other cat seems to be jealous of it, but then he's like that. Mark's getting some wonderful sleep and he says he's not remembering any dreams, it's just good relaxing sleep, and a lot of it. It's a fun project if you like to sew and would also like a relaxing pillow. I purchased the lavender at www.elementsbathandbeauty.com, and her lavender is from France and is very good.
Since I have so much left over, I might put some (not a whole pillow-full) into my own bed pillow and enjoy both the scent and the relaxation properties. It really does work. Makes a nice gift too, as you could also do a smaller pillow, like for a couch or chair. (already done that!)

Thanks for reminding me about how well lavender works.
We use the essential oil all the time here - I make perfume, creme', lotion, shampoo, you-name-it, from several different kinds of lavender. Also potpourri, which is easy and just has to sit a few weeks and it's ready to use in a burner, small crockpot or just on the stove till it starts to boil.
I would not have enough for a project like this, but it sounds like such a great idea that I might purchase some lavender. I see that someone else tried the link you provided and it did not work...Could you please repost the addy?
Thanks for such a wonderful idea! Miriam
I have the old, menopausal, can't get no sleep at night, tossing and turning blues.
thank you for a good article!
They are good for headaches too!
William, I've got the man, now he wants to sleep! LOL
I'm growing 5 lavender plants this year, maybe more next year, but it's not nearly enough to make the things we make with it. We also fill muslin bags with lavender and put them in our dresser drawers - lavender repells all kind of bugs, though I've never had any luck with it for my headaches (which are hereditary, and could by why).
The best herb we've used for sleep and it also comes in an essential oil, is probably Valerian herb, but the smell ..... it STINKS!
Neroli essential oil is also considered sedating, but is very expensive.
