Does anyone have any thoughts about pre-arrangement funeral sales

So today I interviewed with a company that is pre-arrangement funeral sales.. or they call you a family grief counselor.. Its strictly sales.. 16% straight commission.. I live in Port Orange FL where there is many old people and a lot of money.. However if I take this job I give up my unemployment benefits.. I could make a lot of money or I could not.. I'd be basically working for myself which I love and could put in as much time as I need to.. I could take out school loans to sustains us since they don't have to be paid back until I graduate (years down the road!)

Any thoughts>

Whoa. Living on loans? If it were me, I would talk to others in the area doing that type of work and get a realistic view on the job and what they make. Living on loans is scary and student loans are not that much, when you plan on living off them. I'd be real sure before moving into this job. Is there a real money making opportunity on it. Lots to think about.

I have one thought: My dad purchased pre-arranged funeral arrangements years ago. The day he died of cancer we found out that the company was bogus and we were scammed. Fortunately, our local funeral home helped us out, along with the VFW.

living on loans is very iffy. it could backfire on you pretty quick. i don't know anyone who does the prearrangement. it sounds like it could be a good job. just research a little.

as a student living on loans... I don't advise it. living off any loan has the potential of seriously backfiring. Plus if it's a federal loan and you end up bankrupting (heaven forbid) they aren't included. Also, interest builds even when you're not in repayment yet (in some cases) just adding on top of the stack you get socked with after graduation.

I agree with sara, with sales being so unpredictable as a dependable source of income, Id talk to others and see what kind of income you'd be able to pull in, realistically.
