What does your name mean? Is this you? ~ A Game or maybe something a little more....

Does your name define you or do you live up to your name?  What does your name mean, not just it's "translation" but what does it mean to YOU?

 

I was named after a famous song in the early 60's.  Not sure where my middle name comes from.  The song isn't one of my faves, I can't say I even like it, but it's ok.  I like my first and middle names together.  It would make a good "single" name or last name.  If I use just my first and last name, I'll change it so that it blends and is spelled like a surname.  

My first name means "lady" , middle name means "of the meadow" and by translation, I think my last name means "charmed or happy".  I can't say that my life has lived up to that last part and I'm seriously considering changing my last name legally and permanently.  I like the name and what I THINK it means, but not what's attached to it, in other words my family and history. 

Lady of the Meadow ~  Look at The Goddess of the new age religious ideas, the Star or the Empress in a Tarot deck.  Fertility, abundance, dream and wish fulfillment.  I am and I can be everything I want to be.  

I've decided to live up to my understanding of it.  Not just in my dreams when I sleep, but every day of my life.

That's what my name means to me.

As far as I know Julie comes from Julia or maybe even Juliette, but aside from that I have no idea what it means. I do know my mother named me Julie because she wanted to give me a name that was not so popular back in the '50's. It seems a lot of other mothers had the same idea because there are a lot of Julie's running around now! LOL! She almost named me Mary.

My name ties me into my family and gives me roots. In my family, we use the same names generation after generation literally for hundreds of years (my niece bears a name recorded as showing up in the family since the early 1700s, Christina; her father, my brother bears a name in the family nearky as ling, and my other brother's name first appears in the family in the mid 1700s). There are 5 generations of us Dorines and I expect the current 7 year old Dorine will someday give her daughter the name. I love and admire my grandmother Dorine and have always wanted to be like her. My aunt, my cousin and her daughter and granddaughter also admire the first Dorine, who was born 110 years ago and lived to age 93.

I think using ancient family names gives a strong sense of roots and belonging.

My name, Mariah means the wind. It comes from the song "They call the wind Maria" Yes, with out the "H". I belive that it means strenth, ambition, and flexibility. I believe I am all that and more. ;)

My first name comes from the Greek word for "maiden". To me, it means a connection with my ethnicity (not Greek) and it also is different. Not unique, but different. Together with my last name, it just sounds good. Upon my divorce, I took my maiden name back. It sounds much better with my first name than it did with my married name (which was a common Spanish surname). I've been told it sounds musical. I like that. I also like that it is me. Just me. Who I was born, and does not attach me to my former husband.

My first name is the name of a flowering shrub, often found in Ireland, my middle name means grace, and my last name translated from Scottish means "one who lives on the hills"
So I am a graceful flower living on the hill. I suppose I have grace in my own special way heh and I do enjoy flowers and do live on a hill.

I was named after my grandfathers nickname Al with an added letter i. My middle name was my grandmothers. My last name is pretty simplistic no special meaning that I know of.

I must say that I was named after a famous sunken ship the Andrea Doria. Hey it`s better than even live up to my name, I do say that a persons name is only as good as their word and I believe that with every fiber in me.

Ishbel is the Gaelic form of Isobel (slightly anglicised spelling, too!) and there is at least one of us in each generation going back at least 4 hundred years. The name was taken from the Portugese Isabella, a form of Elizabeth, and introduced to Scotland in about 1300.

My first name is from the Spanish for "beautiful."

My middle name is from the Greek for "more desirable or better."

My last name is a double occupational meaning in Middle High German for "reed cutter & Locksmith."

It's intriguing... the facets of ourselves that our names represent. I like the names that are given to us by those who know us after we've grown awhile or that we choose for ourselves.

I have no clue about my name. Just that is was after some grandmother I didn't know and nobody liked.

My first name, Joy, means exactly what it says, which I suppose says something about me in and of itself, since I value straightforwardness. My eldest brother chose my name, because as he wrote at the time I was born, it just seemed to suit me. My middle name, JoAnn, means "God is gracious" and is the feminine version of John. I got this name because my mother's middle name is meant to be JoAnn, but was spelled "Joan" on her birth certificate. She capitalized the "A" in my name to make sure it would be pronounced as her name was meant to be pronounced. My unmentioned last name is reportedly Irish, and while I do not know what it means, I do know that it is uncommon. I would not say that my life has been full of joy (in fact I have faced many difficult and trying times), but I do tend to think that even the difficult things in life happen for a reason, and I feel that I am, relatively speaking, a fairly lucky person. So I suppose I have some sense that whatever higher power exists is indeed gracious, and I do my best to remain positive and hopeful. I try to find the positive even in negative situations, so I suppose my name does suit me.
