Thanks Aruni over at babblesoft for tagging me with this one. I'm responding because she hooked me up with some PR last week. Okay, here we go.
1) I was Texas State Champion in wrestling at age 10 in the 76-pound weight class. A feat I never repeated, though I continued in the sport all the way through high school. I was always pretty good but became too much of a head case to really perform well. My team in my senior year fell one point short of winning a State Championship – something I think about more than an intelligent person should.
2) I have a terrible short-term memory.
3) I am the proud winner of the Ima Hogg Historical Achievement Award. No joke. The lovely certificate hangs above my desk. It was awarded by the Center for American History at the University of Texas for a play I wrote about Sam Rayburn. Her sister Ura doesn't have an award named for her.
4) I did lots of drama in high school and college, and it seems to me that an unusual number of people I was in plays with have gone on to some degree of fame. Connie Britton, Lisa Loeb, Rachel Dratch, Owen and Luke Wilson, Kurt Voelker, Farrah Forke, Carty Talkington, and David Hudgins to drop a few.
5) I am 40, married, with three kids and I have never had a mortgage. I have always lived in housing provided by a boarding school. I love the boarding school life, love the throwback environment for raising kids, but I’d had enough of teaching by last year and have moved on to pursue my work at DadLabs.com full time. My wife is still employed by the school, so we continue to live on-campus. Maybe some day, when I grow up, I’ll own my own house. But maybe not.
6) I was once commissioned by the Texas Department of Health to write a short play about getting inoculations. Coming across that “show” on public access TV late at night two years later was a low point.
7) I have a terrible short-term memory
8) I hate fennel. I am a foodie and will try just about everything, but fennel contaminates all it touches with its fulsome flavor. Ick.

As a foodie you should know that fennel is just good on its own.
There are lots of Hogg this and that in Texas. Outsiders probably find that hard to believe. I always wondered what would happen if one of Governor Hogg's daughters had married into the family of the famous Texas grocer H. E. Butt (of the HEB chain of stores). Would they be the Hogg-Butts?
The memory thing was supposed to be a (lame) joke.
