Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute, President Bush's new war adviser, said that repeated deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the nation's all-volunteer force, and that reinstating a military draft "has always been an option."
"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," he said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."
"And I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another."

This isn't a surprise. We don't have anywhere else to go. There's no chance of getting volunteers in the numbers needed. Hopefully, it will be a limited draft like Israel has, but who knows?
I won't see my loved ones go to war in a draft.
My nephew will be deployed for the third time since 9-11. This time he'll be gone for a year.
Forcing young men (only men are required to register for the draft) to fight in a war which has very little to do with 'National Security' is stupid. If the war had any merit at all, the draft wouldn't be necessary; they'd be line up down the block to defend this country.
Iraq is a tangled mess. I don't know how to end or fix it. I do know more troops isn't the answer either. Our troops need to come home.
