In the USA...why must seniors work to exist??

I know some who like working and intend to work as long as their health allows. Others have not had the life that has allowed them to provide for security in their senior years. This is hard for people who have never been really poor to understand, but there are many of our senoirs who fall into this category. Some have seen their security for senior years takens away from then as in Enron and other companies that cheated their employees.

My grandmother is still working part-time because she wouldn't be able to eat if she didn't. She never had a husband to support her. She was on her own most of her life and worked as a waitress. There was no "retirement" fund for her to put her money into.

If you've always been in the lower to middle income classes and have raised a family, it's difficult to save money to be able to support yourself after retirement. Social Security is usually not enough.

Not a danged thing we can do Margieanne. The
Gov'ment got us all duped and there's not one
thing we can do but pray the good Lord will see
us through. And that has worked for me for the
years I've joined my Church and will keep on as
long as I stay faithful to the Church and my Lord.
