I don't watch much television now, but when I was a kid I lived for it.  We had one t.v. and we all had to decide on a show to watch as a family.  Sunday night was horrible, because my father insisted on watching Lawerence Welk.  I was remembering some of the shows we watched like Emergency, CHIPS, The Waltons and so many others.  We always watched together.  It was a family affair.  I don't know how we survived without a remote, cable or tevo!  What are some of the shows you watched in your childhood?

we only had one channel. Black and white set. The Wizard of Oz, came on at the same time every year. We sat as a family and watch the show. Gone with the Wind was also a yearly regular, that we watched. The regular shows Hee-Haw, Sonny and Cher, Carol Bernette and other variety shows. I didn't much care for them as a kid, but I love them now.

My mom always watched Lawrence Welk. We would watch Lassie before that and then Ed Sullivan or the Walt Disney show afterward. Watched a lot of cowboy shows in the 50's: The Cisco Kid, Gene Autrey, Roy Rogers, the Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy.

I liked Adam 12 and Bonanza when my kids were small.

Sky King and My Friend Flicka. We also were a Lawrence Welk family. Everyone complained, but everyone showed up to watch. My mother STILL watches whatever they are doing now/ Thanks Randy for reminding me of Diana Shore. She sang a commercial for Chevrolet.

I didn't watch much TV when I was a kid. I do remember watching Lawrence Welk at my Grandparent's house though. That was torture!

My best memory of older shows is of watching Murder She Wrote with my grandparents. They run it a lot now and the memories that it triggers are really amazing.

I will be flicking and a clicking now and come upon it. Wham! I am transported back in time to my grandparent's breakfast room. We are watching it together. My grandfather is busy ready and marking pages in some book or another. My grandmother is going through the nightly ritual of putting her hair in curlers and I am trying to do the same:) It always makes me smile when I see that show on.

lol, Sue, when I was a kid, there were only a few radio stations on at night. In 1939, when I was 13, I heard the original War of the Worlds broadcast with Orsen Wells, and we had heard the beginning where it was told that it was not a news broadcast, but if you missed that, people were very afraid that the martians were actually landing in New Jersey, traffic was tied up all over the place, and don't forget there were very few cars then. But when TV finally did present itself, I saw the first one I had seen at the l939 worlds fair in NYC, and then we began to get them in homes in the late forties, there were but a few shows broadcasts and only for a couple hours at night. We got our first TV in 1950, and I think one of the first shows we really enjoyed was Casey Crime Photographer, with Darren McGavin, I must have liked him because named my second son for him with that name, and saw that right after my first son was born in 1951. I know we watched the Ed Sullivan Show, but that came on much later. This is such a great question, lol, specially for me.

I remember Dr. Quinn Medicine, which I s.till miss. I wanted to be the next Mrs. Sully. And I loved Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.

What a great story Elsie. It seems like television or in your case too radio was a family event. Now everyone has several televisions, and there is a different thing going on in every room. I bet it was great to see the Ed Sullivan show. So many stars emerged on that show, and some of them are legends. The Beatles were one of them. I always love hearing your stories Elsie. Thank you for sharing.
