Are there others out there that dream of homesteading? People that live off the land as much as the possibly are able to without worrying about how many material things they can accumulate over the years are homesteaders. I read magazines, articles, and books about the topic and it makes me want it even more. I have the land, over 80 acres and within a few years, one income will pay the bills. That isn't a problem because Karen has NO intention of leaving teaching EVER. LOL.....She made that clear early on in our relationship.
So, anyone else? Any suggestions on preparing for it? I would love to discuss homesteading.

live off the land, providing own power, etc
Like, power companies will pay you if you come up with a different source of energy to run your property. This won't pay for itself for along time but I still think it would be worth the freedom of those bills.
It is very empowering to own everything you have and not pay bills for energy. we are i'd say 95% running off of solar energy. it is very possible to do as long as a person doesn't expect to use energy like they used to do. everything is calculated and not taken for granted. we are hoping to build a green house next year so we only eat our own veggies. i even picked wild/natural gooseberries and made jam and juice last fall
i hope you go and do it. it is hard work but extremely rewarding, especially in this day and age with the economy as it is. you can do, people have done it forever (except the past 100 years)!!!
