Homesteading

I'd love to do that. I think the country as a whole needs to be more self sufficient,
live off the land, providing own power, etc

I have considered alternatives to keep from having to pay others for what I need.
Like, power companies will pay you if you come up with a different source of energy to run your property. This won't pay for itself for along time but I still think it would be worth the freedom of those bills.

I have often thought of what it would be like to live off the land but my current lifestyle is so far removed from that now I'll probably have to wait until the next go around.

That's what I really want to do. :) I know some Mennonites that live next door and it amazes me all the things they do, but I think that's really the kind of thing that I want to do at some point as well. ^_^ Good luck in your attempt, though!

it's relieving to hear about other people thinking about homesteading. right on! my husband bought land off-the-grid 8 years ago and I married him 4 years ago and jumped into it when he had only a 10ft by 10ft house. we have now built an 8-sided house for me, a bathroom, put in a septic tank, got a well, and we're working on many other things.

It is very empowering to own everything you have and not pay bills for energy. we are i'd say 95% running off of solar energy. it is very possible to do as long as a person doesn't expect to use energy like they used to do. everything is calculated and not taken for granted. we are hoping to build a green house next year so we only eat our own veggies. i even picked wild/natural gooseberries and made jam and juice last fall

i hope you go and do it. it is hard work but extremely rewarding, especially in this day and age with the economy as it is. you can do, people have done it forever (except the past 100 years)!!!
