A childs version would be kinda like this.
It is a rare art. There are very few people in the whole world that scissor cut freehand. Maybe around 100. Most of them only do faces, not what I do, nor with all the detail that I cut with.
When there were no cameras, rich people had their portraits done in oil. Poor people had peddlers come and draw a shadow of them with charcoal from the fire pit. When cameras were invented, there was no more need for the peddlers to do their portraits that way anymore.
One man in France loved the art so much, he started to cut out portraits, and do tiny ones. The art is named after this man, "Silhouette" instead of shadow cutters.
It is very difficult to use only a pair of scissors and cut out an object freehand. Lots of skill and patience.
There are no schools to teach this.
It is an art that is lost now. People search for this type of art work, and they are very valuable to collectors.
I hope this explained it easier, than the posting I did before.
