In exactly 1 month plus 4 minutes I will be heading down the runway in a plane bound for Iceland.
In 1 month I'll begin a 10 day trip in the place that I've missed every day since I was there last.
It's our only vacation this year, and it's much needed.
I know I've let my summer slip away while waiting, but who cares? I've still been able to go to concerts, have friends over, have a yardsale, play with neighbors, go swimming, ride my bike, go to the beach, watch the sunset, take a summer grad class, make mojitos, celebrate birthdays, welcome best friends for the first visit in 3 years, and read. So I scrambled towards the future, and a chunk of time off from work.
And during that time a lot changed. My role at work changed. I joined a phography group. I got a B in a grad class that I was pretty sure I did not even pass. I saw my grandmother for the first time since Thanksgiving.
I had lunch today with a co-worker and friend of mine. Hearing her speak of her family troubles (and me of mine) just put it all in perspective. There's worse places to be.
So 1 month and 1 minute left.
Iceland, I hope the morning of September 8 dawns a beautiful, geothermally heated and delightful day. No e-mail. No fax. No cell phones. Just us.

I'm so glad you'll soon go back to a place that enchanted you, ten days of further discovery! It sounds like you've fully enjoyed your summer so far.
BTW, I read that Reyjavik has been picked #1 green city on the planet.
Yes, it did enchant both me and my husband, it's a place close to home (4.5 hours by plane) that we discovered together.
Thanks Paula, I'll share the article and photos when I return.
