Explosive Chocolate

Last night my hubby was watching a program about how chocolate is manufactured, starting with the cacao pods in the South American rainforests. It was quite interesting. At one point, this documentary took you through a chocolate processing factory, which distributes its products around the world to companies like See's and others. There is a machine called a destoner that removes any small rocks or stones left among the cacao seed pods that were harvested and shipped up north. The tour guide said the destoner serves another purpose -- because the cacao grows in the rainforest, often in third-world countries where wild animals roam free, live ammunition is often found amidst the cacao pods! It is weeded out of the food stuffs via the destoner. He commented, "We believe it is bad form to leave live ammo in the mix when we proceed to the roaster oven." LOL.
