Book Promotion

I vote for promotion as the most time consumind, difficult part of writing. Writing is such a joy, and promotion is hard work. I keep plugging away and fortunately, I have a lot of colleagues who are helping me. One of those is a very talented author, Sloan Taylor. She interviewed me for her blog on her very busy website. all best for ur book..i have suggestion..writing free articles for ezines, publishing newsletters and organizing a book reading at local library and also use ur myspace and facebook profile to get attention..

I have a web page on MySpace and do not know how to use it for promotional purposes. Frequently people tell me to publish or promote my stuff on MySpace, but all I find is a bunch of teenage garbage, foul language, and not much else in the way of serious endeavors. I would also like to promote my book, but seem lost in the process.

Congratulations on your work. I'll definitely check out your interview on Sloan Taylor's blog.

Hi Donna. Thanks for checking the blog. I've never done myspace though many of my colleagues do. I went the facebook route and there are a lot of reader and writer groups there. I'm taking full advantage of it yet, but I'm learning as I go. Baby steps.

Promotion is the most time consuming part of being an "Author." This is what differs from being a "Writer." I'm starting to get this promotion stuff more organized finally so I actually have time to write. LOL!

Some publishers say you need postcards, business cards, bookmarks and a lot of printed material to pass out. Then they want to charge big bucks to create a promo package for 'you'. Instead, if you have Word and any computer skill you can print all this stuff yourself. I do beautiful business cards, 10 to a page in full color on card stock. You can also make 5 bookmarkds to a page including your synopsis and photo of the book cover. Put website or other info on the back. Then seal in .003 mil plastic. It makes a permanent useable bookmark and I give them to everybody I meet. Also, I autograph the back before lamination.

Al, thanks for the information on the bookmarks. I was seriously considering them.

Another way to publicize is to do book signings at small bookstores, libraries, organizations and groups.
