We’ve told you about Freebies to “Stay Away From These” and some to “Be Cautious” . Now here are the real goods.
GRAB THESE BABIES
• Restaurants- often chains - that are introducing a new product or doing some other promotion. They may offer free coffee, ice cream, or something on a specified day
• Stores that have regular promotions with free items after rebates. You usually have to belong to their buying program. Staples, CVS, Walgreen do this and each has a program that simplifies the process.
• Promotions such as a free dessert on your birthday. Here are some birthday offers (http://www.spoofee.com/index.php?section=birthday)
• Major manufacturers may offer samples of shampoo, cleaning products, or food products. But if someone other than the manufacturer is offering it, there’s probably a catch.
• Advertiser-supported offers, like the free 411 service at 800-373-3411.
• Museums, theaters, orchestras and other cultural institutions. If you live near any major city, you can find free times at museums, free concert rehearsals, free community performances, gallery openings, and more. Commercial performance venues might let you in free if you come early and work as an usher or ticket-taker.
• Mail in or web offers for free toys, small gifts. Like rebates, look at your time and postage to decide if it's worthwhile. These may be fun for kids.
• Some of the big stores keep a list of freebies on their website. See what you can find at Costco
Walmart (http://walmart.triaddigital.com/Free-Samples.aspx)
• Free services from government, local, state, and national (you did pay for them with your taxes and charitable donations, but that’s done.) We like these
- DVDs and Audiobooks from the library.
- Concerts in the park.
- Consumer info and how-to booklets from the Feds, www.pueblo.gsa.gov
- Agricultural and gardening help from your local Extension Service office
- Small and home-based business help from the SBA and SBDC

Secondly, we love FreeCycle. By using it, we have kept these things out of landfills and passed them on to others: Our old bathroom counter, stained and warped, but PERFECT in the eyes of a gardener as a potting counter...an old ceiling lamp which was turned into a lantern by a craftsman....recently used paint which was used to paint a daughter's bedroom by a needy family. Never forget, your trash could be someone's treasure and recycling is a wonderful way to give!
