I know growing up, my mother had many little cures handed down from her mother. Some of them worked, but others...whew. One of her favorites was hot tea and dry toast for an upset stomach. It was years before I could drink hot tea after I left home. What kind of cures have your mother or grandmother pushed on you and did they work?

Metholate (sp?) swabbing for a strep throat. Tastes horrible, but works!
Mud on bee stings. Nasty, but sucks the pain out.
My mom? she was a registered nurse! Even had the presence of mind to pick up my decapitated toe when it got chopped off, put it on ice; and got the Dr's to sew it back on (that was in 1967 btw, b4 lots of re-attachment surgeries :-o
Mom's, don't you love them? I loved mine.... :-) Bless her soul....
Her mom, my grandmother was good with arthritis tips though. She had it starting really early in her feet and hands. (in he 20's) I have broken and sprained my feet and ankles so many times, that her tips of sleeping with a plastic bag on the injured foot really comes in handy.
