I am stuck in the catch-22 world of automotive seo. There are two opposing forces:
1) The drastic need of car dealers to optimize their websites in the ultra-competitive automotive market where everyone starts and sometimes finishes their car buying search on the Internet.
2) Car dealers who are often not tech-savvy enough to understand that paying a company $200-$500 a month is not considered quality SEO.
It always amazes me - the search marketing blunders that car dealers and their Internet departments make. It isn't their fault, though. SEO is a field shrouded in mystery for most. There are no degrees, no certifications, and very little media coverage that ever reaches their desks.
To make it worse, there are so many SEO frauds and even automotive website providers who sell cheap snake oil with the understanding that either the dealer won't notice, the dealer can be held off long enough for the checks to be cashed, or the dealer can be fooled into believing that their SEO efforts take months, even years to get real results.
Consider this a vent, as I know there probably are not a ton of car dealers out there who visit Gather very often, but it just irks me how so many astute, expert negotiators get duped by terms like "domination" and "Certified Google Reseller".
For those who do not know, a Certified Google Reseller is someone or some company who went through a mini-online course, took a test, and got certified to do search engine marketing, not optimization. Still, there is a company out there that uses the phrase as if it gives them special brownie points with Google.
They might as well say, "I subscribe to Sports Illustrated, so I'll train you to be an NFL Quarterback."
Sorry for the long, meaningless post. Like I said, it just irks me to see so many get duped.
