nope...just wasn't sure how the sunday meme thing was to work :)

The thing I like about Gather is it gave me an outlet to attempt something new; writing for the first time. And I got feedback that others enjoyed it. I don't care for some of the hating and 'dictating' as to what should and should not be done. I consider this to be a site where people can express themself through written word or photo. Who is anyone to say a person is right or wrong in the way they choose their own personal expressions. I have attempted several styles of writings to determine my amount of success in the way of response and have discovered I don't need to limit myself to one genre of creating. I've also expanded into pictures and have been very well recieved with my talents in that medium as well. I first began writing on Gather this past Valentine's Day at the urging of my best friend. I was initial overwhelmed when I started writing not knowing how an amateur no one like me would be recieved. The support was tremendous and I soon developed a large following. I enjoy being a humorist most...to make others smile and laugh; even at my own expense. If we can't laugh at ourselves; we can always pick someone else out to do it to. But I enjoy doing historic and educational photo essays I've found out. I don't spend as much time on Gather as I used to now that I've curtailed my publishing. I do 'lurk' and read and make occassional comments. Maybe, in the future, I'll begin participating more, but an upcoming relocation is taking up some of my time. I'm on altogether, maybe an hour a day now, when I used to be on 5 or 6 hours a day; sometimes multi-tasking. No withdrawls when I've been away from Gather...I rather enjoy the break from time to time.

What do you love best about Gather?
It's a great place to connect with other people, and to get ideas, encouragement & feedback re: writing ...and re: life in general :)
What do you dislike about Gather?
Being an outsider who is not supposed to cash in points, and can't participate in most of the contests

When did you first join Gather?
almost a year ago .... followed a link re: the Amazon short story contest

What were your first impressions of the site?
I liked it right from the start - found it easy to navigate, and there were a lot of great writers to read

What do you most like to write about?
Life :)
How many hours a week do you Gather?
Most of the time that I'm on Gather, I'm flitting between it and other things (like school, for example) ...so it doesn't count

When you can't get to Gather do you suffer from withdrawls?
I suffer withdrawal anytime I can't get online - fortunately it doesn't happen often.... but on the whole, less about Gather than one might expect. Even when I'm not around, I know that most things will still be there, anyway - so its not like you're missing it... you can always catch up by going back further :)


What do you like to do when you are not on Gather?
Read, write, go fishing

What is your favorite time of day to Gather?
Morning & evening when there is a chat going on ... I like the GEG chats

Has being on Gather helped you in any way as in making friends, getting support, or improving your writing?
All of the above, I think :)

It's also improved my picture taking - I think of grabbing my camera a lot more often now when I'm going places because I have someplace to share them.

I came to Gather after putting in word search "emotional support" and gather.com was the first to come up. I enjoy reading about other people's experiences and learning how others manage their lives. I've only been to gather for a few weeks so there's not been enough time to have any dislikes. I work a fairly stressful job all week so mostly juat sign in on Sundays. I got caught up in the chat room talking when I first got a computer in 94 and I know it can take up too much of your time if you're not careful. Being with my family, working in a job I really enjoy, reading books that help me relax, and taking care of my home are all more important than coming on line, but sometimes I just get in a mood and talking to complete strangers is a different connection with the human race. I look forward to reading more of everyone's life experiences and having people who understand share their comments.

Meeting new friends and reading their articles.

The bickering, snide remarks.

18 months ago, I'm a veteran, battle scarred too..:))

I came because it was supposed to be a writer's site, on the direction of a Professor.

Have you ever suffered from withdrawls from not being able to Gather.

Nope, I have a laptop.

The number one first impression of Gather was that the screen could be large enough for me to read the words. It gave me my first ability to read again in the last few years. So for me it was wonderful. Second, it gave me a way to reach out into the world and see what was going on, having been confined by serious illness and injury. It was a sort of lifeline. And I enjoy tremendously reading other peoples stories and thoughts on things. It's really been wonderful.
