Ebooks are not self publishing

I felt a need to make a clarification because of some things I read. My recent release, THE GREATER GOOD, is out in ebook format. It is not self published. I am paid royalties and have invested none of my own money. There are any number of ebook publishers who are very successful for themselves and their authors. My publisher, New Concepts Publishing, is excellent, long established and respected in the field. There are even some epubs that are starting to give small advances. I know there are other authors on gather that are epubbed. So speak up and out. Check out my website to learn more or my publisher.

You should say that "some" ebooks are not self published. There are lots of them that are!

I agree with you 100%. I spent 2 years turning down contract offers from publishers that wanted to turn my book into an e-book. I'd been told that was a scam (some are), but I've learned now it's a good way to get your foot in the door of the publishing industry. A way to be "discovered." My book will be released in October, in trade paper back. If I'd taken the offer from Samhain Press, I'd been published two years ago. There is nothing wrong with E-publishing. In fact I have two more completed novels, I'm thinking of sending to Samhain.

Some ebooks are traditionally published, and some self published books are also available via ebook. Either way, I beleive it to be another step toward the future of writing. My publisher initially steered me away from ebook, several years ago, as in their words, it had not been perfected yet. I beleive, now that years have passed, that ebook is a viable way of getting your work out to the world. Good luck with both the ebook and the release of your book. Congrats too on both. JW

Ebooks are a great way to get out there and start building a fan base. It's also an excellent way to "do it yourself" rather than having to find an agent. My experience with agents has taught me to avoid them because no one knows better than me how to sell my book. You just need to find an excellent e-publisher.
