NBC Stings
I am going to use last night’s post as a led in for today’s post. A certain NBC show is rooting out online predators. They have a decoy or a series of decoys. I’m not sure how the conversations get started, but I know where they lead. They lead to a grown man making plans to have sex with a 13 / 14 year old kid. They show up at the house sometimes with gifts or condoms, and then when they get busted, they lie. They make up some lame brain excuse for themselves. The anchor is armed with the chat transcripts from the guy’s chat with the decoy. He talks with the predator, and then as these men leave the house, they get busted by the cops. Is it right to nab these guys in this way?
Well since I asked the question, I’m going to be first one to answer the question. I’m going to put my two cents out here for you. I think it’s perfectly fair. You can’t tell me that these guys have never done this before or never chat with kids this way. This show provides a way of getting predators off the streets. Let’s face it our kids are worth it. I want to play the side of the devil for a little bit.
We do not know anything about these guys or at least, I don’t know them. These men are set up by a person who is playing the part of a 13 or 14 year old. They get set up inside a web of lies told by the decoy. 13 or 14 year olds are capable of knowing how to spin a web. They know their bodies too. In fact in some ways, shouldn’t they hold responsibility for their own actions in scenarios like this? Please remember that I don’t buy into any of my statements in the current paragraph.
These men face a changed life when they show up for these meetings. Everyone watching this show will know that you are a sexual predator. They will know that you agreed to meet up with a teenager. You’ll be arrested. What happens now? Do you get off easy now, since it’s your first offense? Do you have to register as a sex offender? What happens when you make arrangements and then realize you’re making a mistake and you don’t show up? Still, I have a few concerns.
Most of the what we see on the show are men meeting girls. I know, there are predators out there who feed on boys. Where are they? I think, it’s awesome this show is taking down these beasts. Is there a reason why this show seems to snare more guys looking to meet girls. We need to stop guys from preying on boys. Well, I am out.

It kind of like in our state.. they have a show where they show who our most wanted are.. and I tell you what.. it has been working. We have caught alot of men and women that was on our most wanted list just buy doing a show!
Evidence should be obvious! I dont know why the judicial system is so umm what do I say.. so dumb sometimes! They know what these men have done and buy golly something needs to be done! Order them into some counseling or something if they cant keep them in jail! IT has to stop!! There is too much sex and violence these days and we need it stopped!!
Angela - You're most welcome.
Tiffany - You're right! We need to do something.
Bridget - I agree.
Elsie - I also know a young man who just turned 18, who was sexually abused only it wasn't by a stranger. It was by a family member. I had this young man in my cub scout den. I went to the trial while he sat in the courtroom and shared his story to the jury. It was an eye opening situation. I've seen this young man who was angry at the world at age ten, emerge and has since in the last year given his forgiveness to the man who abused him, it wasn't a face to face thing. I think for him, it needed to happen. I am really sorry to hear about brother in law. I dont' understand why anyone would inflict that kind of torment on another person. It's not just a sexual act, it destorys them or at least a part of them.
