You have to understand, my daughter Alexandra has always been a tom boy. She is a tween now and I am seeing some changes.
She has two brothers, and is the youngest. She's always played with their toys, hated Barbie and avoided the color pink like the plague.
So when she started commenting on fashion and requesting jewelry, I sat still and paid attention.
If I can get my little sweetheart to wear something other than black, blue or red, I am a happy camper.
So, enter Hannah Montana into our lives.
I found out who Hannah Montana was earlier this year. I mean, I'd seen the name on TV and saw my daughter watching the show late last year, but only stopped to pay attention when my daughter, age 10, requested her cd for her birthday. I then set the DVR to record a marathon of the show and when my son (best buddy of my daughter) was gone one too many nights(summer sleep overs), we watched the show together.
I was pleasantly surprised. Hannah Montana is cute and fun.
Yes, Hannah Montana is a Disney Channel show.
On the show she is a famous pop star who keeps her musical career a secret so she can lead a normal life when she's not on stage. That quickly gets complicated because the actress Miley Cyrus plays both Miley Stewart and her secret identity Hannah Montana.
Miley lives a double life as an average teenage girl at school during the day and a famous pop singer, "Hannah Montana", at night.
Only her close family and best friends know that she is really Hannah Montana.
Her father, (real life Billy Ray Cyrus of Achy Break Heart fame back in the 80's) plays Robby Ray,Miley (and Hannah's) widowed dad . He is also the manager of Hannah Montana.
The series premiere scored record ratings for Disney Channel topping off at 5.4 million viewers. So far the show, Hannah Montana has been nominated for a 2007 Creative Arts Emmy. (Outstanding Children's Program)

I have high hopes for Miss Hannah Montana, I hope she handles celebrity well, and does not fall apart growing up.(like some others lately)
She can sing, has positive lyrics and although not really on the pop charts yet. Her show is being shown in many countries and she's been touring all around the world. (mostly Disney locations) (She is number one on Disney Radio and interestingly enough, when I went to buy her cd late June, the Best Buy clerk said her cd outsold everything else that week)
She reminds me of an "I love Lucy" of current times. (younger, but funny)
Looking around online at school clothes (for my daughter) we found out Hannah Montana even has a clothing line .I was bummed to find out its not cheap and is hard to find.
I found her backpacks on ebay selling for close to 50.00. (and they originally sold at Toys R Us for 15.99)
I googled Hannah Montana backpack and after a good half hour of research, found forums and fan information leading me to fan bragging posts on where kids got their Hannah Montana merchandise.
I am now a proud purchaser of a Hannah Montana backpack found in my local mall. (In Claire's)
Better yet it cost me 17.99 instead of the dreaded ebay price.
Home today we came with a pink and black Hannah Montana backpack, a purple bracelet and baby blue Hannah Montana notebook.
If I buy a pink top with Hannah Montana on it, I bet Alexandra would wear it!

;-)
Enamored of baseball, Billy Ray Cyrus intended to become another Johnny Bench as he grew up in Flatwoods, Ky. While attending Georgetown College on a baseball scholarship, he bought a guitar and decided immediately that athletics wasn't the proper
direction for his life. Instead, he formed a band called Sly Dog with his brother and gave himself a ten-month deadline for finding a place to play. One week prior to that cutoff date, the group went to work as the house band for a club in Ironton, Ohio, where they remained for two years. When a 1984 fire destroyed the bar -- and Cyrus' equipment -- he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career.
Eventually, he returned to Kentucky and commuted regularly to Nashville in search of a record deal. Grand Ole Opry star Del Reeves got Mercury Records to take a look, and division head Harold Shedd signed him in the summer of 1990. When his first album came out in mid-1992, Cyrus -- with his good looks, sculpted body and the infectious "Achy, Breaky Heart" -- became an instant groundbreaking sensation. Spending five weeks at the top of the country charts, "Achy, Breaky Heart" made his debut album, Some Gave All, a blockbuster success. By the time it fell off the charts, it had sold over nine million copies and spent 17 weeks on the top of the pop charts.
Despite his attempts, Cyrus wasn't able to replicate the success of Some Gave All. He quickly followed the album with It Won't Be the Last in the summer of 1993. Initially, the album sold well, entering the pop charts at number three, but it fell far short of expectations by only reaching platinum status. Storm in the Heartland, delivered in the fall of 1994, managed to go gold, even though it was ignored by country radio. However, by the time it finished its chart run, Cyrus had slipped from the public's eye. When he returned with the harder-edged, introspective Trail of Tears in 1996, his audience had virtually disappeared -- the album only spent four weeks on the charts and didn't even go gold. Shot Full of Love followed in 1998 and Southern Rain was issued two years later.
In March 2001, Cyrus hit TV screens in the role of a country doctor moved to Manhattan in the sitcom Doc. He returned to music world with 2003's Time Flies and Other Side. In 2006, he released I Wanna Be Your Joe and also appeared on The Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, starring his real-life daughter Miley. By the end of 2006, Miley Cyrus had her own No. 1 album when the Hannah Montana soundtrack topped the Billboard 200. ~ Tom Roland & Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Hannah Montana is a good influence on my kids.
She is okay in my book anyday.
My kids asked me why Lindsey Lohan was arrested
I hated having to explain that to them.
I hope Hannah Montana stays positive & smart unlike Lindsey, Britney, Paris and Nicole. I am sick of hearing about them too.
I will have to look into it.. I too have a daughter that is pretty tomboy!
The concert was indeed fun.. gosh.. I wonder where I put those photos.. he was in the car for one of them, lol

I sure do not blame your niece for wanted Crayola crayons.
Some of the generic crayons aren't worth a penny. :-)
I remember her singing the "swiper no swiping" song.
