I think lots of little girls fall into that category. When you're little sometimes, especially when I grew up, it seems all the opportunties were for boys. When I was little I wished I was a boy, but as a teenager a lot things changed in equality for girls and boys. We got our own sports teams and the armed services opened their academies for girls. Of course now that I'm older, I'm glad no one every granted that childish wish. I've encouraged my girl to be independent and a modern young women, not as she says, 'a girly girl.' So what were you growing up and are you still a tomboy?

That was considered enough for sports for girls in the 50s, at least in my school.
so is my little leann...they became independent women quicker, too!
Is the term tom boys, girls that are agressive?
I always had boys as friends and played cars, bikes and dinosaurs!
Yes, I even had a Tonka truck!
To this day, I'm still independent, stubborn and refuse to let anyone walk all over me. My boss loves the fact that I am NOT a "yes-man". If I think he's making a mistake, I will tell him so. With me, he knows exactly where I stand and doesn't ever have to worry about me not giving my opinion. :-D
I can remember my father telling me when I was in Junior High School that I couldn't walk "that way". My strides were too long and it wasn't lady-like. I laughed. I thought it was the most absurd thing I'd ever heard. My poor father had NO IDEA what to do with a hard-headed daughter. I must have been the source of serious ulcers when I was a teenager! Poor dad. There's a special spot for him in Heaven for being my father, I'm sure!
