Promoting a website

I know there's a lot of experience here at gather. Everytime I pose a question about writing I receive terrific advice. In the last few days, I've been really promoting my new release, The Greater Good, and my website where I've posted excerpts and information on purchase with a link to my publisher. My website visits have tripled, but how do I make sure the hits keep coming? I had a lot of promo stuff going on yesterday and I think that helped to double my hits. Any suggestions? I can't sit at my computer all day and I do update my website at least weekly. So how do you all keep people coming back, attract new ones, and please the ones that show up?

It takes constant new content to keep people interested. Most people have a limited attention span and committment to very many things.

These are actually some of the reasons we are trying to get Rising Star Authors up and running wild. Our goal is to promote authors and their work in numerous recurring venues. The site is currently under a restructure and we are impatiently awaiting completion of the web site upgrades.(patience not being one of MY strong suits) Feel free to visit the site(risingstarauthors.com) to get the gist of it. We will publish an article or two as soon as all the upgrades are in place. We beleive it will help answer your question of gaining recurring hits. More on all of this later. JW

This may sound unprofessional, but I've seen it bring at least some new business in which in turn will creat word of moyth. Social networking sites do work. Gather, besides being a site for writers is a social networking site. Myspace has a whole section specifically for authors, one for musicians, comedians, and then of course the regulars of all ages you hear and read about who wander around and find these artists who are advertising their talents. I don't know anything about facebook, but I imagine it is much the same. There are many other social networking sites to explore. Getting your URL out there is the most important thing?
