Gather vs Real Life

Pretty much the same I might speak out a bit more in real life...

For me, I am more reserved on Gather. In real life, I will tell you where "the bear goes in the forest". I "sit on my hands" more on Gather and other online communities. I know that words hurt and without the tone or the ability to respond, words can do great damage. I'm amazed by something and perceptions given on Gather which is why I asked this question to all of you.

I think the internet has become real life if a person is honest .
And I try to be as honest as I can be.
So to answer your question yes I would anything I share here I would share in the world

I think I am more outspoken on gather.

I would have more trouble starting to talk to people because I have trouble with feeling like I am being a bother to people. I can post things here and people can read it without me pestering them or me feeling like I am pestering them. I am who I am though. What you see is what you get. I have been mistaken for being stuck up because I have trouble approaching people. I don't tell people anything different here or away from here though.

I am what I am...and that's all that I am. For the most part, I act the same on Gather as I do in real life. The only exception may be that I'm a little nicer on Gather because of the type of people the site it oriented towards. In real life, I can be a little more rude and crude and outspoken, depending on the type of people I'm around.

Some people in real life might be shocked to read some of my opinions and secrets that I do reveal on here.

i think anyone who portrays him or herself differently online than offline are fake and not worth the dirt on the ground..why be fake??
I myself am no different in real life than i am online,i am honest,straight forward and direct to all that i meet in person or online,why be ashamed of who you are or what you are..i myself dont judge by someone's looks,i judge em by their actions(offline).online it is very hard to find out who the person you are talking to is..but even those people you can find out what they truely are made of by their actions as well...if they tell you something online one day and the next they dont follow through,well,then i guesss we would know what kind of person they truely are wouldn't we?? so asll in all we are who we are,why hide it,its better to be honest and upfront at the start than to find out you have been dealing with someone who shall we say is simply dishonest or a liar...wouldn't you agree??

I'm me no matter where I am!

I'm the same person, but I really don't share my writing with my "real people" very often. I don't think they'd be very interested, and it is such a new thing for me that most are just shocked I'm doing it.

I'm the same person but I don't offer up my opinions on politics in real life unless asked or prompted. But... As soon as someone asks, I let loose! I am very opinionated in real life..... Just like on Gather. I just don't want to offend the people I have to see on a daily basis. : )

I definitely am the same on Gather as I am in life. I often will even comment about a poem I wrote or something to my family members. My mom and dad and I were talking about their dog Max and I commented I wrote a poem called I Lost a Furry Brother. It made my mom smile knowing that I loved him that much. Silly woman, she's always known!

I try to weigh my words more on Gather since people don't know me and I wouldn't want to offend anyone. I am honest in my replies, but try to say it as nicely as possible.

If you google your name or gather name you can find it leads you to Gather so whatever you say can be read by others. I go by my real name as I don't really care what others think. It has crossed my mind that my father's relatives would be apalled about what I have written about my childhood, but if they ever said anything to me I would just say, "Why didn't you do anything to help me, You had to know things weren't right." My one aunt told my Dad he couldn't beat me in her living room, so he took me outside to our car to finish beating me.

Yes, it often isn't easy to talk about, but God brought me through it and I am the person I am today because of it. It what I reveal helps someone else, it is all worth the effort I make in writing about it. I write from my heart and it is not to tarnish my parents reputation or image. They were hurting people who hurt me.

I am who I am. I am very honest and if people don't like what I say, well ask me about it. If you don't agree, fine we don't always agree on everything. I appreciate all the comments I get and not just for the points. I believe anything can be discussed and I am always open to others perspectives, it may change my own. I may be old, but I am always up for learning new things..."this old dog can still learn new tricks!"

I share my photos, articles, etc. with my family. Especially when I write about them.

I dont do too much personal stuff here. I'm more the private type. C):-)

What you have wrote?

This is a very interesting line of thought. I find it so much easier to express myself through written word. I've always been this way. It doesn't have to be online expression, just written word in general. Pen and paper works just as well. Just not as big of an audience.

Enhancing the truth is a waste of time to me and completely unnecessary. Besides, lies always seem to have a way of telling on themselves eventually... Once I learn someone has lied to me I quickly lose interest in them. I see Gather the same way. A persons truth belongs to them... I may have an opinion but am not interested in judging them. I hope for the same from them. Our paths have crossed for a reason...

Would you share what you have wrote in articles or the picture you have posted with your "real life" friends & family? ---- Yes I would and have.

Would you be as open with all the details? ---- Yes but there really aren't too many who care about the details.

How closely does the person you are on Gather reflect who you are in real life? --- I am not sure. I would like to think about the same. But am not a very good judge of myself and no one I know in real life (at least that I know of) is here on Gather to let me know.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and stories on this topic. It has been interesting but not really suprising. I think most of us take measures to protect ourselves online.
