I saw this book at Borders and the cover looked just too awesome to pass up.
Originally, I thought this was a graphic novel - this isn't exactly the case. This is actually a collection of 5 special edition comics that were released periodically. I finished reading this book in probably less than an hour, so its obviously an easy read. Some of the writing was kind of corny and I felt like it played to a younger audience, but there was some high points.
I enjoyed the overall story - in a parallel universe a virus has effected most of the mutants, making them zombies. However, these zombies still have the ability to reason and only end up killing off all of humanity because of the "hunger" that consumes them. When our zombie super heroes become hungry they lose their sense of responsibility and their desire to protect the innocent. In a more hillarious note - after Spider-Man is done feasting he is overcome with moral guilt.
The lead characters in this story are basically the big names -> Spider-Man, the Hulk, Ironman, Wolverine, Giant-Man, Luke Cage, and Captain America. Interestinly enough, Captain America is referred to as Colonel America in this book - not sure what I missed, but I thought he was Captain America, guess I was wrong.
Many, many characters from the marvel universe show up in this long comic, both villians and super-heroes alike. The "Deus Ex Machina" of the story is the Silver Surfer and in turn Gallactus. Gallactus' arrival sparks for a nice twist of an ending.
The dialogue was probably like a C+/B-, the art work was an A+, and the story-line was probably an A-. I say if you can find a good deal on this book, then you should get it -
let's face it: Zombies + Marvel Super-Heroes = Cool.
