Are you a picture-aholic

I too, feel I have become a picture-aholic!! I believe it happend when I got my first digetal camera. Before I had that, I always liked taking pictures, but never took as many as I do now! I too wish I had more pictures of my son when he was a baby, but I didn't have a digetal camera then either, so like you said, developing rolls of film was a little harder then taking digital photos and putting them into your computer! We went to a waterpark today, and I left my camera at home, because it's not waterproof. I was so upset that I didn't bring it with once we got there; the landscaping was beautiful! I also saw lots of birds and butterflies as well, and was very disappointed that I couldn't take pictures of all the beautiful things I saw today!

I am NOT a picture-aholic! I can quite any time I want! That's ridiculous!

Okay, maybe I took a few this morning. Alright. It was more than a few. Let's see... Well, it looks like it was about 150. But, I can stop any time. Really!

I'll quit tomorrow...

not yet. I'm just really learning how to even use our newest digital camera, never even used the old one.

I had the same feeling today on my way home from work, the sun was ruby red and big as all get out while setting. . . and my lonely camera was sitting at home :( by the time i got home you couldn't see it because of the hills :(

I feel your pain holly and heather......beauty all around and no camera, what is a photograph to do, I had that dilemma when we went to the beach (I didn't want sand and water on my camera..plus I didn't want it to bake in the sun, thanks for sharing your story!!... Rick you may be a photo-aholic but your not alone! It's time for us to gather and take a day to put down our cameras..............alright maybe not tomorrrow,:) .........Paula the more you play with your camera the more you will become a picture-aholic....when you hit the top 25 on gather you will feel the force....and you too will be hooked!!!!

LOL..I wrote an article here very similar to this some time ago called "From a Photographers Eye" So true Angela..so hard to go anywhere without my camera at the ready! I get anxious if the low battery indicator comes on! lol You notice many more things after taking up the hobby you never noticed before too. Suddenly there's beauty all around..and where the heck is my camera when I need it? lol C):-)

Your so right Dan, I forgot the part about running out of batteries :O I did that in a museum and of course the gift shop didn't sell double AA's. They wanted me to buy one of those expensive cameras....I went to QT and bought some.
We have a art show called First Fridays that all the local artist show all their art in the business district and I was ready to take tons of pictures. When the dreaded screen appered on my camera NO MEMORY CARD...........I had left it in my computer, I had a camera and batteries, but no memory!!!!

I've often felt the same way. I've lost out on a few photo ops either because I didn't have camera or batteries and it just gnaws at me for a while what photos I missed.

I think I am indeed a picture-aholic. I don't know.. I went to a concert on Friday and took over 200 photos of two bands..both live on stage and after the show when we met them... does that count as a Picture-aholic?

Thanks Jennifer, I am wondering one more thing.... Will anybody delete their memory cards even though, you have then already downloaded. I save mine three different places before I erase memory. I-photo, an external hard drive and photobucket... If we go on trips I by a new memory card and deposit the card in a safety box after I have downloaded it. Memory cards are getting so cheap now it is like buying film. Yes I know..................My name is Angela and I am a PICTURE-AHOLIC!!!! :)

Oh, I definiely am. If I do not have my camera close by, I see so many missed opportunities and great angles.

I re-use my memory cards. I currently have 6 (3 of which are the 1GB size and hold a bit over 500 shots each card) I do however, delete photos and re-use that space for new images.

Generally I will print out my favorites at Walmart's 1 hour photo dept and delete those shots off my card. My favorites will remain on the media card in case I ever want reprints or enlargements. (these include paranormal investigation shots, some family photos and photos like the ones I took this weekend at the concert.) The rest will be deleted after I either upload here to Gather and/or print out at Walmart.

It sounds like everyone has their own method to the picture-aholic madness...at least I'm not alone!! So, with pride I will lift my camera high and say..............My name is Angela and I am a PICTURE-AHOLIC.....

I lofve how well you put these feelings into words. I do have a camera with me at all times and I've caught some amazing photographs. I would really hate to think of what I would have forgotten I saw if I didn't have the photographs to remind me. I love it and I relish the fact that is in an addiction...an addiction that brings joy to everyone around me!

You are so right Angi (great name) I am so glad you stopped by!! I think your right, one day I'm going to look back at all my photos and not have any regrets. It is a addiction that brings me joy and I think all the people around me enjoy seeing the pictures after its all said and done. Thank you for pointing that out and sharing!!

No, I don't think I'm a pictureaholic. I go in spurts, just like anything else I do, and then I lose interest. Sometimes I'm so wrapped up in the beauty of the moment, I forget to take a photo.

I'm afraid to take my really nice camera on vacation to places like Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica in case it gets damaged or stolen and it's too heavy to lug around when hiking. I take a snapshot camera I can put in my pocket or little back pack. That I do regret because there have been so many awesome photo opps and my smaller camera just doesn't get it. Oh well.

I burn my photo's on to CD and put them into the safe deposit box, I also have them on the computer and I have them on an online site that allows me to have them developed in an hour so I can pick them up at a local store. I delete my memory stick as soon as I've confirmed they are on the computer.

Thats awesome Bobbi....It's great to experience the moment without a camera, then that is your own special time. I have a camera that is easy to carry with me even on trips. I take it everywhere. That's why I wrote this artical...thanks for your input.

angi,(still like the name) It sounds like you do the same thing as I do, I have two outside places I send my pictures. Kodak and photobucket....that way I can get prints and I can get on anyones computer to pull them up.......great job, thanks for sharing.

YES!!!!!! I admit it! I'm a picture-a-holic! I take my camera everywhere and take pictures of EVERYTHING. I'm sure my friends and family snicker behind my back. LOL

I want to get a great camera... any suggestions?

I have a canon powerShot A640, that is amazing...it is a 10 pixel (which is an overkill, for people that don't need to blow it up supersize) I am going to a canon rebel (they range in size) next.......It is a less expensive prefessional camera. Nikon is really good too. The best thing to do is read comsumer reports and know what kind of things you are going to want to have in a camera. (like zoom, pixels, macro) My power shot has come down in price from 399 to 269. Try www.microcenter.com, they know a lot about cameras.... you can get memory sticks for 7.99 to 14.99 on 1 GB. I hope this helps.

I have certainly become much more of a picture-aholic since getting a digital camera. I too have felt anxious at times about not having my camera with me -- what if I miss something!?! My kids rolls their eyes at me sometimes -- gee, more pictures mom! But I am a very visual person also and I figure it makes me happy so they'll survive :-)

and I agree fully Marie, I am such a visual person!! That's why I went into graphic design..... I knew there were people that loved to take pictures as much I do, but this is the only place I can find these people. My family likes taking pictures of birthdays and holidays, but I like taking pictures of life....Thanks for your story Marie

Ok, I admit it, I am too. If you saw the corner of my hobby room where I have many picture projects you would know what I am talking about. I like the digitals because you can get rid of what you dont' want to keep right away, you can do a lot with them, but I hate them because I don't get physical pictures as easily as I do with the 35mm. I have to work the software on the computer to get the pictures I want, and most of the time they sit on the computer and they don't get printed. aaaaaagh!!! Hey Angie, what kind of photo projects do you have in the works?

Its good to recognize being a picture-aholic Mary......I have many projects in the works, because I'm starting back to college in a couple weeks. I'm finishing up my graphic design degree. I have to have my porfolio done this semester....so I'm creating a website with photography, drawings, layouts (magazines, advertisements, etc.) I use my photography alot in my designs. The best thing about being in design is when I want to print some photos I get to use the colleges high end printers.
I hate web design, but I need to have all my past projects together on a website, I have a new i-mac with all the mac programs like photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, flash....so between running three kids around, I'm trying to learn them all inside and out. I hope you like the gather...I have joined most of the photoshop groups and they are a neat crowd. Very creative.... I hope to visit with you again soon...Thanks for stopping by...

I'm beginning to think that it o-kay to be a picture-aholic, its better than somethings you could do with your life!!! Everyone has been great with their comments, I feel very confident that I am among my own kind-of people:)

My phone has a camera, so I am never without a way to capture that great moment!

I do carry my camera everywhere but I don't get so wrapped up in the capture that I miss the beauty

I carry a camera with me. I think it is a challenge to "capture" the shot while enjoying the moment.
